Bronz, if he stands up or tries to crawl away I take the thing he is eating or drinking away. He screamed the first few times, but has learnt very quickly. At first I had to sit him down though (plus meals are in his feeding chair). I just think its a massive choking hazard to be walking around chewing:(

Some of these are great.

I said I would not co-sleep. He just some how managed to work his way into our bed (And I say that because some nights I have no clue how he got into our bed, I have no recollection at all)... He starts in his cot then lands up in our bed at about midnight - I figure thats a good compromise.

I would only breast feed till 3 months. Still going very strong at 10.5 months and I dont think I will get him off at my new date of a year.

I am dying to break the TV one, but G will not sit still. I have not had him watch for long than a minute - regardless of whats on.

Claudia how did you manage to get him to sit? G always has to move....

There are more, Cant think right now.

I said I would never co sleep. James slept in a cot next to my bed for three months, then he started "sleeping through" so we transitioned him to his nursery, but during growth spurts bought him to bed with us to make it easier for me. Thats when I finally mastered the art of feeding and sleeping, and discovered that I felt so much happier when he was with us (when James is in his nursery I would worry about what would happen in a fire/ if we were broken into etc and I couldnt get to him), plus found out that in breastfed babies it makes the risk of SIDS almost negligible, so changed to starting him in his own room at bedtime and then cosleeping from first waking after we'd gone to bed. Since 6 months he now spends most of the night with us:)

Otherwise I've been pretty strict with my decisions so far. No toxic e numbers, no junk, no refined carbs, no dummies, no formula, no TV, daily outdoor play even if its raining (then we do it under the pateo), Has to sit when eating or drinking (hes only 11 months, but if he sees me eating or drinking something and he wants some, he sits wherever he is...)

Well, I say I had no hard&fast rules, but I mean there are things we ALL know are wrong for babies & we've broken some cardinal ones that I just remembered.

Fizzy drinks! - We don't actually pour fizzy drinks for LG but we've a few times given her a sip of ours cos she throws a fit if she wants to have some of your food/drink and you don't give it to her.(& she won't be tricked by pouring her some Purity juice!)

Junk food. I am addicted to potato chips but now can't have them in peace cos LG will be standing against my leg grabbing at the packet/bowl of chips. So my solution was to buy chips that she can eat as well...so cheesecurls have become a permanent feature in my house.

LOVE the responses ladies!!! LOL!

I think what has helped me is that I never had hard and fast rules  I just thought I'd take it as it comes... :)

She slept in our bed a lot when she was a newborn. She was born right at the start of winter so we'd put her in her cot when she woke up for those ungodly hour feeds, I just couldn't resist tucking her next to me in bed!

Also didn't like the dummy idea. Must admit, it helped between 2 & 5 months. after that, she spat it out all the time till we gave up. (not complaining tho.)

Also, about bedtime...my LG only sleeps around 9pm!!! We tried the sleeptraining & I couldn't stand the crying it out thing! So, 9pm it is! :(

It's so funny reading the responses!

I must say we all have such high expectations, and if we had to follow them to a T, we would be in a looney bin.

I always said you shouldn't rock a baby to sleep or cuddle etc, but whats really wrong with comforting your little one before bedtime LOL. I must say Jordyn often refuses and just wants to be put down too.

No baby in our bed, well though Jordyn never sleeps with us and has been in his own cot since day 1- in maybe the first two months when he woke at 4am, we would bring him through and let him lie by us so we could get a little more shut eye :-) And Im sure there is nothing wrong with that. We dont do it anymore, and it didn't do any harm.

Tv-Well bubs is only 5 months and he likes a the TV- I really dont know if it is my imagination but he seems to have prefernces as to what he likes. He will babble and giggle when Mickey Mouse is on abut not in most of the other programs. And I agree with the other moms, it gives you free hands to quickly put dinner together or run to the loo etc. Besides I am sure it is good for them in a way- anything in moderation.

So we broke our rules, but really, the same with birth plans- don't set your heart on something, else you will be in for a painful disappointment. Rather just take things as they come, you as a mom will know what is right for your child.

oh and when Jordyn was in ICU for Meconium Aspiration Syndrome at birth, they asked if they could give him a dummy and I said sure why not. We cant always plan these things. He still uses the dummy and I hope that he will wean easily. I dont think he is very dependant on it...but maybe this is the difference in having quite a content baby, as to not being able to soothe in this way?
