How do feel about a walking ring?

No, we are against them. When James was born we decided not to confine or restrict his movements in any way. He was sitting at 4 months, crawling at 5 1/2 and is 9 months now and standing. I think developmental milestones has a lot to do with opportunity to perfrom them. We have a foam puzzle mat in our living room and thats his "base camp" He is free to roam as he pleases

i am still in 2 minds about the walking ring - the free time is fantastic but he also looked terribly uncomfortable!
I stopped putting him in there round 6 /7 months (much to my mothers relief) and i found him crawling quickly and standing up against chairs and cupboards and now he is doing the wobble walk while holding onto surfaces ect - and i think that him not being in the walking ring has aided in his new milestones
But as you say - everyone has their own choice
What i do find the little ones generally dont like it much - so that simplifies the whole matter

I have also wondered about the walking ring Maryke...Interesting to read everyone's replies. One of the reasons I won't get one is we only have a 2 bedroom place and I think space is too limited for it. I think the safety issue depends on whether its fully supervised. I have noticed they are quite pricey nowadays, they start from 300 and go over 1000 Rand! You have to also think about how long you will use them.

I am curios, why are a few of you against the Bumbo? My LO has been using one from about 4.5 months, he feeds in it and it really is handy while you cook, he can be right in front of you while you chop veggies etc- he loves watching! Its one of those things you only use under supervision-but really small babies are only safely left alone in a handful of positions-ie: cot, fastened bouncy chair/swing etc- so I dont count that as a down side.

Both of mine had walking rings - they loved them!

I am in two minds this time purely cos we have a double story and a step out everyone of our doors now and not much room to move.

If used in limitation then I dont see the issue!
