Dylan slept next to our bed in a carry cot for 6 months. I was still breastfeeding him so it worked well for us and he woke up every two hours so I could grab him quickly before he woke too much. Not ideal but it worked.

Then He outgrew the carrycot and I moved him into his cot in his room and we did sleep training and he started sleeping though. Amazingly we all slept better. having him next to me was actually keeping me awake and we were waking Dylan up.

At 17 months he started waking again due to major teething and he would stand in his cot crying and it was winter and we decided to get him his own bed which is very low to the ground and it worked really well.

We don't really mind dylan sleeping in our bed during the early hours of the morning, but he must come to us. I do not allow him to fall asleep in my bed though. We only have a double bed and there is just no space and Dylan is seriously active during his sleep. He is really good about going to sleep in his own bed by himself each night. On a good night he sleeps through and we wake up Dylanless and I must admit a bit sad not to have a cuddle with him. He wakes really early and joins us in bed. Bye bye morning sex though.

I think the main reason I can't have him sleep with us is because I just love watching him sleep and hold his little hands. Too precious so i don't sleep at all.

Yaz - we have a Queen. Should of a King. If you have the space and budget then I say go for a King! My parents have one and it is AWESOME!!

What I do is I have one of those Lindam bed rails up so Troy lies that side and won't fall out. Then it's me in the middle and then Jade and DH if he can squeeze in...

Thanks you guys!

We dont really have a choice for now but I have always been adamant that kids must have their own rooms/space.

Will see how the first few months go and how Cameron feels abour sharing once he realises that babies dont really sleep at night ;)

Joli and Jems, what size beds do you have? We only have a double and it gets pretty cramped in there now with a giant starfish in our midst. Thinking of getting a bigger one. Is queen size enough?

Also a co-sleeper. When Troy was a newborn I bought was of those co-sleeper cots - was fabulous, a great buy! But he outgrew that at about 7 months and is in the bed with me (his is 16 months), with his sister who is just over 3!

Poor DH sleeps in her bed mostly as she complains that he takes up too much space in our bed

I did buy Troy a normal cot but hardly used it.

I have just ordered bunk beds for them as DH has had enough.

I don't mind... I love snuggling with them. Troy also still b-feeding.

Lilly used to sleep in a carry cot next to our bed from birth. When she outgrew it (at about 6/7 months) we tried moving her into her cot in her own room - what a disaster! After a few weeks of sleepless nights and unhappy baby & parents we moved her cot back into our room which went well at first. Then a really bad teething episode with fevers and all started and Madam ended up in our bed. Needless to say this is where she wakes up every morning now even though I never remember how she got there (she goes into her cot at bed time) lol :P . We'll try moving her into her own room whenever we feel she is ready. I actually enjoy snuggling up against this warm little body now that it's winter :) Sleep training is definitely not for us!
