file Best and worst baby buys?

I agree with the mommies... it differs from mommy to mommy!

I wanted a rocking chair but I have never used it so it... (thanks for the gift tho mom).

I also never used a baby bath with Luke - used the basin in the bathroom and then our built in concrete basin in the washroom and not sure when I will be bathing him in a normal bath yet (still lots of space in the washroom basin and soooo easy cos you dont need to bend).

Best buy ever for me was a Maclaren stroller - so easy to use and compact, perfect from about when baby is about 5 months old.

Enjoy the shopping TaNasha

Wow! Interesting.

Best buys:
-electric breast pump (Medela), if you can afford the double by all means buy that one.
-couple of cloth nappies for wiping him or for burping
-feeding pillow
-medela breast milk storage bottles , they are way cheaper than the other brands also.
Worst buys:
-baby bath, just like meags , I bathed him in the sink then straight to the big bath. I found the bath irratating to fill, lift, clean and store away. It was uncomfortable to lift in the first 6 weeks due to pain. So stopped using it.

That's all I can think of so far.

best buys:
SWING! lifesaver...
Double electric breastpump
Swaddling wrap (actually has velcro on the sides so their arms dont escape)
sleep sheep (he loves the ocean wave noise every night to fall asleep to)
rocking/recliner chair. When he is so niggly I put my feet up, recline the chair and have a great nap with him (4am feeds....) and when going to sleep in the evenings, great rocking motion.
Ubba Bubba wrap - the newest one is so easy - takes 2 seconds to put on and he almost always falls asleep in it.
Material seat for the bath. your hands are free to get things you need and bath baby with ease.

pointless buys:
Crib with a changing table attached. Matt is almost the length of the changing table at 10 weeks old...so we have to buy another one soon
Baby bath. It is a pain to fill and empty and doesnt fit on any of our sinks. I bath him in the bathroom sink. Only now at 10 weeks he is getting a little big for it but I'm sure he could still go a few more weeks if needs be. (we recently bought the material seat that goes in the bath so he will be in the big bath from now on)

be careful buys:
We wanted a nice pram and car seat combo.
well Matt hated the car seat so we never used it with the pram!
The pram isnt that heavy, but quite bulky - a pain to get in and out of the boot (you really have to force it). next time we will spend twice the money and go for the umbrella folding peg perego.

I agree regarding the swing. Ours cost R1500 but I know that it will be passed around family members, used for our 2nd child and eventually we will resell it for a good price.

First angel resting 25/06/2009 stayed with us a short 7 weeks but we still miss you.

The thing about the Fisher Price Swings is that they have great resale value. My friend got one on Gumtree for R900 and sold it for R1000 when she was done. I got mine new as I was desperate and paid like R1400, but still sold it for R1000. For the amount I used it R400 was nothing to pay. It saved me especially when my son became more alert, didnt want to sleep as much but had to be put somewhere safe as I showered or went to the bathroom. He was happiest in the swing. ;-)

Thanks ladies!

We bought a sling, diaperchamp and some swaddle blankets. We already have a compact travelsystem.

I looked at the swings but they are so expensive! I might have to still think about this for awhile.

The sling was the worst for us, and also the woolies carrier - could never figure it out and Kaylee hated when I tried!

Claudia once I realised that Baby Sense was a guideline only so that new moms could grasp how long babies generally awake / asleep for etc I stopped using it. Life was very stressful while I watched the clock, soon as that stopped it got a lot easier!

And I agree about the pram. I like a travel system cos you can put the car seat in the pram, but I would've bought a much more compact lighter one since you dont use it that much and now I'm considering buying a small cheap stroller!

Memo ditto on changing newborns with long sleeves! And necks that are way too small!
