@julzdylan, i will be sure to check out the ear infection. this morning she sneezed and then got this very funny expression on her face, as if it hurt somewhere, then she started rubbing behind both ears......and ended up crying a bit....but settled quickly again.
Which made me think nothing was really wrong....hmmmm...something to investigate.

@ChanM....your tale is even difficult to read, so cannot even imagine what you must be feeling. Tahlia is not as bad - unless she has a cold. last night was much better as she seemed to be looking just for something to soothe her. we gave her the dummy and she settled for most of the night.
Does saying: hang in there, make me sound like a terrible person? cause that is the last thing i want to hear when i feel this confused. But as you said, lets hope the advice being given will help.

Thank you everyone!!

TahliasMom I feel your pain.

My son Kade sleeps from 7:30/8pm until 11pm and then all hell breaks loose. I'm normally up with him every hour from then until 6pm.

He is sick at the moment so I got up 12 times on Monday nights and only 7 times last night! 6 - 7 times a night is norm for us and it's a killer. I'm a walking zombie. I've also tried everything - even Oral Pre-med and he still wakes after taking that!

Kade does have a hernia which could be the cause of tummy ache during the night but once that is ruled out we'll have to try some sort of sleep training. My daughter who is 9 now only slept through for the first time when she was 3!

Kade still drinks 2 full bottles during the night!

Wish I had some advice to give you - instead I'm hoping everyone else will give us some ideas!

Hello and welcome to Moomie

It may be her teeth, but one has to rule out all other possible causes and very often and ear infection follows flu.

If Dylan starts waking at night he often has an ear infection. I usually medicate for one night. If he is reastless with the meds or the night after the meds I will take him to the doc. It is often just fluid and not an infection but when they lie down the pain occurs.

It may also be temp drop so make sure she is warm enough.

Mom of Dylan and Partner to Joerg. We live in the Beautiful Pringle Bay which is along the Whale coast, Cape.

Shame man. Could be the teeth. If she could only talk it would help soooo much!

If sucking help her to sleep, you might want to try this. As my baby did not want to use a dummy but only went to bed SUcKinG, I was told the following. Take a cloth baby nappy (spoegdoek) and pull the one corner through the dummies ring. The little pressure will make it feel like someone is holding it in her mouth.

That is if you would want to try it! :)

Hope you all get some sleep!

Oh thank the Lord!! Thought I will be 're-taught' about the CIO method...i think it is SO cruel. Tried it like for 5min....and ended up crying along with my angel...and she looked at me so sad. I promised never again.

So.....I will put on my big mommy nickers and quit nagging her about sleeping!

Thank you!

Lol, no worries, not too bad for the beginning ;)

Ear infections often develop after a common cold, so if you want to be sure maybe ask your clinic sister to check her ears first before you have to fork out lots of money or medical savings for another paed consulation.

But what your daughter does sounds a lot like 'milestone waking' so just wait it out a few more days and see if there's an improvement once she's gotten used to her new skills.

I could never do Cry It Out. To be honest, I am not strong enough to do any form of sleep training...or should I rather say too lazy as the no cry approaches can take a while to work and my daughter is extremely stubborn. So when things got really bad sleep wise at about 9 months, I decided to change my attitude and expectations which worked wonders for us: I just accepted night wakings as part of the parenting package. We've all been sleeping better since as it's no longer paired with frustration and power struggles. Sleep maturity is a milestone and some babies reach it later than others, as with all milestones. One day they're all gonna sleep through ;)
