Julz very cute pic!!

I am a dog lover and K loves Jessie (our border collie) and i encourage him to play with her etc, however i do not feel comfortable with the fact that he is playing with the other dog when im not around to control him if that makes sense lol.

Simone i would definatly requests that she maybe puts it in writing re: the dogs, i came aross a list of requirements and laws to set up a creche on the internet and it stipulated there that if there is a dog on the premises that it needs be kept hygenic and locked away from the kids.

We went away for the weekend and when we arrived this HUGE boerbull ran up to the car. I watched in horror as our very young and small Dylan ran up to him on tip toes and hugged this dog. The two of them were biggest buddies the whole weekend and I have no fear of dogs and nor does Dylan, however I do not agree with having any dogs at a daycare.

This morning my lab snaped at Dylan. He deserves it. I do not think she will every hurt Dylan, BUT sometimes even good natured dogs snap at children when they have had enough.

Nicole I am actually in such a dilemma as the creche I want to put Addison in has 2 dogs there and they roam around.

I spoke to the owner and she says the one is very old and never moves and sits in the office and the kids love the other smaller one. My child is TERRIFIED of dogs...which i mentioned...and sadly I am not a pet lover, so I am really a bit distressed about this.

They assured me many kids are scared of dogs, and they make sure to introduce the dogs carefully, etc....but its really risky as like you all say...nobody knows the dog's temperament and my child could be harmed.

A boerboel instils fear in me (sorry Julz :) ) so I would really be a bit anxious about K hugging a dog and one day the dog's reaction may just not be that accepting of the hugs.

Thank you ladies!!

I agree 100% i hate dropping my son off at school in the mornings now and throughout the whole i sit and wait for the call that the dog has bitten K.

I have written the letter and made it clear that NOTHING will replace the harm done to Keiran if the dog bites him etc and that the idemnity form that i signed at the beginning of the year does not cover direct negligiance.

I have also requested that all staff members read through my letter and sign it as proof that they have read it and understand it.

Thanks again

Nicole - i think it is extremely irresponsible of the daycare facility to have a dog running loose around children. The fact that your LB is ABLE to let the dog in the play area is unacceptable as well.

I LOVE animals myself but in my opinion this should not even be a discussion. What if the dog bites one of the children!? Forget medical bills and lawsuits and whatever else - dogs can SERIOUSLY harm children and medical bills being paid and lawsuit payouts and whatever else is NOT going to undo the harm. We hear of so many dogs who bite children (sometimes their own dogs) and I am sure those kids parents also thought that the dog was kind and loving, etc. I don't think any parent would let their children play with a dog who they knew was fierce. But unfortunately, a dog or any animal's temperament cannot be pre-determined. Some children are not used to being around dogs and might hurt the dog unintentionally and who knows what the dog would do to defend itself.

The dog should be kept far away from the children and they should not be able to let him out = he should be in a secure area.

I agree with Julz - take the letter and discuss it with them. That way you have spoken to them again regarding your concerns and have it in writing.

I would also be concerned. I love dogs and whilst most of them are loving as I am sure this one is you just never know what could happen if your son steps on its foot or something else. It is a hazard to all the kids. It is not your sons responsibility to stay away from the dog. It should not be so close to where he plays that he can go and let it out.

I grew up with boerbulls and our dog is a x boerbull and while they have a bad reputation they are great with kids. Okay enough of that.

Your concern is totally valid. While Dylan has grown up with dogs, I specifically chose schools that did not have animals as you never know what can happen.

They should keep the dog separate and make sure that no kids can open a gate to let the dog in. It is just negligent to have any dog around so many children. There are other concerns like hygeine and allergies.

I suggest you go and see them and hand them a letter (keep a copy at home). Explain your concerns and tell them that you expect that they honour their agreement which was to keep their dog away from the daycare facility at all times. If they do not, let them know that you are going to report them and that they will be liable for all medical costs and will take them to court to seek further compensation.
