It does indeed sound like a fungal infection in which case maizena / corn starch will make it worse becuase apparently the fungal infections feed off it (I only recently learnt that).

Definitely try the nystacid cream. Even vaginal thrush cream if you have any - I sometimes find that works even better.

Another thing that works exceptionally well for normal nappy rash (not fungal) is SBR Repair cream with multipeol spread over it. And a good old fashioned rooibos bath also works well (add 3-4 rooibos tea bags to the bath water).

I have nyastacid cream at home - Ill try that!
I know she had oral thrush with all the antibiotics so i guess its more than likely thrush down there now... didnt even think of that!

Thanks I will try it out.

From my personal experience, I think it might be a yeast infection, seeing that she was on antibiotics & a normal nappy rash goes away quite quickly - day or 2 but a yeast infection/rash tends to hang around a bit.

Avoid scented wet wipes & bit & only use lukewarm water to clean the area
You'll need to get a topical anti-yeast or antifungal cream such as nystatin, clotrimazole, or miconazole from the chemist. I know our chemist has a new cream on the market but I have no idea what the name is now

I think it might be a fungal infection, seeing that there are blisters. You'll need to get a different ointment for that.

Was she on antibiotics?

Thanks momtoc

she has got tiny blisters on some of them - but it looks like a proper rash with red dots everywhere and then a huge red patch around her bum with blisters.
Havent seen nappy rash like this before.

I had a bit of sudocream at home that I tried but that didnt work either.

My mom told me to use corn starch (maizena) - I did and i think it actually made it worse....

Bepanthem worked for my first lo too. so Im lost!

I am going to go to the chemist and see what they recommend or if they have anything else....
I just wanted to see if there was something else thats obvious....

Hi there Monic@R

So sorry about your lo having a nappy rash!

Just a quick question. Is it only red or are there tiny blisters as well, seeing that she had gastro?

If it's only red, then don't use too much ointment as the bum needs to breath. You can try the following ;

1) Egg whites
2) Sudocream - really works well
3) Corn starch powder form Elizabeth Anne's
4) Bepanthen worked like a charm with my 1st born when she got nappy rash due to antibiotics (I see it's not working for you)

Hope you find something that will help!
