Yes now Marilu can vouch for me on this topic because she saw B at her best one day at C's house where B screamed through the whole July mommy get together!

Marijke I have to agree with you on this one. When m was younger, I NEVER went to visit with her cause getting her to sleep at night was a MISSION. We tried it once, and after 1hour of me trying to get her to sleep in one of the rooms of someone's house and everyone giving me the sympathetic glance and childless friends telling me to 'just leave her' while I know she's already way over tired, we decided to NOT take M with to other people's houses!

Now that she's in a routine, it's a bit different. Her bedtime is 7 so now we do the whole routine at home, get her to sleep, put her in the carseat, take the campcot and monitor with and there we go :) So now we only can arrive after 7 which is cool with me :)

Zodwa, if I were you, I'd phone the lady and ask her if there's a room you can use for you LO to sleep in (and to change nappies and to take LO to if he's tired etc). I'm sure all will be fine unless you have a difficult baby like mine and Marijke's :)

I'm relaxed , i take Liebe where ever I go if she is sleeping or if she is awake.

The people I know , know's that I have a baby so if they invite me they invite us.

I bath Liebe at night but if we go to people and there is time to bath her before hand I do it otherwise I do it the next morning.

When we go to people I take everything , even hot water to make her formula as I like to be independent and do not want to ask for this or that.

I also take her pram and an extra thick blanket and line it and as she is still a baby she fits cozy into her pram and there she sleeps.

If she cries me and hubby will make turns to go to her.If I'm busy he will settle her.

I also listened to lots of rock music on full blast while pregnant in my car so Liebe is used to loud noise and it doesn't bother her to sleep in a room full of people where there is lots of noise. No asking people to be quiet...

When we go out I take it as it comes , i'm not stressing myself out and we stay until we are tired as Liebe sleeps anywhere when she is tired.

Ntoko , I also don't like children touching my things and feels it up to parents to teach their children to respect other people's things.

On March 16th 2010 our lives changed forever , you complete our puzzle. We love our little girl Liebe more than she will ever know. She is everything we could ever ask for and more.

It does depend on your child I guess. I still think that even if Dylan was full of it I would take him out. He screamed all through his first xmas eve at a friend.

We tried that once, when B was about 8 weeks old we went for a sleepover at the inlaws. We stuck to her routine but she began screaming the moment we put her in the bath at around 6:30 like every evening and didn't settle till well after 11 that evening (after I gave her panado because she lost her voice and couldn't breath through the tears and snot), so I said never again which was possibly a mistake but at 3.5 months we found out from the pead that she had the emotional development of a 6 month old and was going through seperation and stranger anxiety early.

My oldest sister has 2 little girls, one was a social butterfly from birth and the other was a shy one and they always had to get a babysitter for her. Now, 3 years later you would never say that she was such a difficult and shy baby. So it really does depend on the child.

Marijke - we decided that our child (then was one) was going to adjust to our lives and not the other way around. Connor was born on Monday, on the Saturday following I went to a housewarming party and took him along.

It was fine. I just acted like it was not a big deal, and I think he also then realised okay this is not a big thing, and adjusted accordingly.

I have three now - we go to friends for dinner and so on - and of course it is easier to leave them at home, but if I do not have a babysitter then I trek them along.

Even at friends I try to stick to a similiar routine, baby is bathed or changed has a bottle and goes to bed. Bigger kids now play quietly or watch a tv show while we sit and act like adults.

It often is a case of what you want to do and is acceptable to you. I do not want to rush home when kids need to go to sleep else I would never leave home, so this works for me, but I also appreciate that it might not be everyone's preferred method of operating.
