My gynae said panado medisips where prefect. (please not med lemon) and I could use iliadin nose spray and strepsils. That was it but the medisips worked so well that I still use them.

If you are running a temp I suggest you contact your gp to make sure you don't have an infection which can also be safely treated.

Ok so for preggie ladies, what is safe and effective to use for colds & flu??

Corenza or Allergex. Asthavent or Venteze. Ponstel or Panado. Vicks or Puma Balm. Creche Guard.

Muneeb:

Panado. Puma Balm mixed with Vaseline. Sterimar.
Breastmilk, lol.

Cough mixtures a big no no with children under 2 though. I would question any paed that gives a script for them.

I agree with Julz quite strongly here. A cough in a child under two must never be suppressed. That is why it is also imperitive that you never give stopayne to a child with a Bronchial infection as the active ingredient is also a cough suppressant. A Runny nose must run, drying it up can often lead to a secondary infection. Sterimar as well as something Like a Bronchodiolator like Adco Linctopent or mucospect is good because it thins out Mucus letting it run more easily and come out faster thereby also empeding coughing as it is now more like saliva and less like thick mucus.

I do understand that what works for one might not work for another.
There is a 3 day rule though - wait for 3 days and treat slightly if after 3 days the symptoms persist and/or get worse - go to the Doc!

I alternate between Demazin, Corryx and sometimes Allergex when the flu starts.

But in winter I have the eucalyptus drops in the bath and in the humidifier.
Lots of saline for the nose
Puma balm rub on the chest and under the feet after bath.....(ask me why I dunno, just a thing that I have been doing since LO was small and for some reason I believe it helps)

Joli I agree. Dylan is also underweight so the paed would always check his weight first before giving a script. EG When Dylan was sick last week he weighed 10kg finally and he could have voltaren, but within a day or two he was down to 9.7 so we changed back to ponstan.

Jaylee maybe if it's been prescribed by the doctor it's a different story. I don't know. But I wouldn't advise any mom to give their baby medicine, especially under 6 months, without taking them to the doctor.

Kayla was 6 months, but she only weighted like 6 kilograms, so ya giving her the 6 - 12 month old dose was wrong. My GP weights the kids each time he prescribe medicine.

It wasn't a reaction to the Demazin as it was prescribed by my GP after that incident when she was older again and she was fine.

I've got nothing against this thread, but I would like to just make moms aware that what works for one baby, might not work for another and you might misdiagnose your child if you self medicate. Rather get a doctor's opinion, especially for babies under 6 months.
