file She still will not sleep...

If julz and the rest are the gestapo then I'm hitler himself!! My LG been sleeping thru since 8/9 weeks. Also used the tough love strategy! She now slps thru even when sick or teething. She sleeps from 7.30pm till 7.30 am. If she wakes up at 5/6 she will chat a bit and fall asleep on her own again. Dont know if its cos she never had a dummy? (She was never interested in it!)

She also tries her luck every now and then (especially after a sleepover by Granny!!) But I have gotten tough! Put her down, leave the room, close the door almost completely and go have a smoke! My smoke is not even halfway then she's gone

Good luck with the sleep training!

ladies thank you you for all your comments. I am going to research the different methods and try and stick to one to get her to sleep.

Last night was so bad. I was so tired that hubby took over. Baby was awake from 2350 till 330. He gave up trying to make her sleep and left her with me in bed, i fed her and she fell asleep.

She also does not want to go to sleep for her morning nap - she cried for 30 minutes. I am so weak i went in gave her her dummy and taglet, put a firm hand on her and she went to sleep while still sobbing and heaving. I am a softie.
I need to toughen up :)

I did the controlled crying thing with Brandon and it was tough (on me more than Brandon), I literally stood outside his room and cried with hi. But it took 4 nights and even now at almost 4 he knows that leaving his room (except to go to the loo) is a no-no !
It takes real dedication and sometimes ear plugs to go that route.

Then when I wanted to do sleep training with Liam, the first 2 nights were okay, but after that he would work himself into such a froth that he would projectile vomit all over the room / curtains / bed etc. I was told to just leave him, but there was o way I was gonna leave him to sleep in vomit soaked clothes so that really did not work for us.

Then I discovered the No-Cry Sleep solution book. What a life saver !!! After 3 months I could just open up Liam's cot and in he cralws, grabs his dummy & taglet, I cover him and walk out.

It is all about creating sleep associasions in order for LO to self sooth. I started off by sitting in his rocking chair with him, giving him his bottle, then once bottle was finished I would hand him his taglet and dummy, rub his cheek and tell him sleeping time, while rocking until he was almost asleep.
After a while I could hold him while he drank his bottle (his dummy & taglet would be in his hand), as soon as he finished his bottle I would pop him in his cot, rub his cheek and tell him sleeping time and walk out.

The thing is to give him the cues, and to put him down BEFORE he falls asleep, but is drowsy enough to fall off on his own.

I am with Julz and Reluctant mum on this one.. Sleep training, sleep training, sleep training.. no bottles, no water, no rocking .. ZERO!
I am also a Gestapo member with Reluctant mum, but I can guarentee you sleep training works, but if you cant stick with it, then you actually just confuse the child, and make things 10 times worse.
So, if you want to do it, make sure you are ready for it, because its VERY difficult not to just go into a crying baby's room and not offer him/her a bottle/comfort..!! :(

My LB is sick with the adeno virus at the moment, and he still sleep through the night, or should I rather say -- I can hear he wakes up, but does not cry, then I am getting all worried as maybe his nose are totally blocked/cant breath/dirty nappy bla bla bla.. by the time I get there, he is sound asleep...
The main thing is to teach your child how to self sooth, and let me tell you, my LB did not have A CLUE about self soothing!!

I think sleep training saved my marriage and prevented me from ending up in a place with a green roof.....

Good luck! Hang in there!! ;)
ps. I used dr Christopher Green's method of controlled crying...

Lata - I know exactly how you feel. I was in the same boat as you. Exhausted, wanting a change but not wanting to let my little boy scream until he eventually gave up on me and out of extreme exhaustion and trauma, went to sleep.

I know the cry-it-out method works wonderfully for some and I have nothing against this method, I tried it and it ended with my son throwing up, he was so hysterical. It was definitely not best for our family. I then decided to look for a gentler method to teach him to go to sleep.

I am now following the Pantley NO CRY Sleep solution. In just one month he has gone from waking every hour at night and taking forever to go to sleep to waking once at night and going to sleep on his own in 5 minutes. All this with absolutely no crying. It does take a lot of patience and time (one month versus 5 nights when you want sleep now seems ridiculous) but I would do it all over again rather than leave him to scream. That went completely against my instincts. I think that desperate and tired mothers will do anything for sleep though. (Something I completely understand)

I would really recommend buying the book.

lol rm. I also feel like the witch when I talk about sleep training. I am sure the ladies think that cold hearted woman. It was another amazing mom on the pf forum that gave me the courage to do it and I thank her every night now.

Thanks Julz - I thought I sounded a tad Gestapo there - but I am glad you agree.

Sleep training is really hard work, but it is one of those things if you stick to it - REALLY stick (never falter or give in) to it for a minimum of 7 days it will be better for ever.

It's like magic that part!!
