Sorry VG, I did not mean to offend anyone.
I was trying to make the point that applying the wrong natural remedy for a problem can sometimes be dangerous.

I've heard about all these remedies and have used some of it.

Can remember the Lennon's meds being mixed with vaseline and used to massage baby. It smells aweful, but somehow it calms baby and they sleep nicely afterwards. I actually have to phone my aunt or MIL to get the names of everything again. Also, a drop or so of it in the bath water.

The breastmilk in the nose and eyes works like a charm.

But like lots have said, use your discretion.

2kidmamma, could I drop a couple drops of warm olive oil in my 8 month old baby's ears? Not sure if it is the teeth but he keeps pulling on his ear, no temp and not niggly.

JoJo, sure it could do only good. But please be sure that the babies eardrum is not perforated as this will cause big damage. The Homeopathic remedy Traumeel which you buy in Ampules is also very could. it has anti-inflamatory properties. My clinic Sister advised this with my Sons last ear infection.

So, the cod liver oil and sweet oil mixture worked on my LO's cough.

Vamo I didn't use the coin but I used bandage on her for 6weeks until the sister told me I could stop as her navel had healed.

But most people use the coin and it works.

LOL...JOLI....next time Gal!

Before resorting to Paed or GPs for advice, I always ask granny and I can write a book about all her concortions (sp) when it comes to LO.

LizeP I am not advising anyone to do what my gran does to my LO, I am a product of my gogo's concortions (sp)! If they helped me then, they will also help my son now! I believe those "legal" drugs by western doctors...solve one problem but create another one for the little ones in the near future.

My son was VERY colic but it stopped the day we visited gogo, she just went to her garden and pulled out a bunch of peach's tree leaves and boiled them and once cooled she bathed LO in them and that was the beggining of our GOOD NIGHTS RESTS.

LO had cramps and we, black people, believe that even though the umbilical stud falls within weeks after the child birth, it takes up to 6 months heal from the inside. Gogo just put a R5 coin and rapped it around LO's belly button and it healed faster.

Whenever LO had a blocked nose, she also told me to just milk a bit of my breast milk in his nose and within seconds LO will be fine. Thsi can also be done for eye infection.

I'll add some more tips as I remember them

I think we should also post a caution on this thread. Some of these remedies (although they work) are not recommended by western doctors.

My pead told me never to put ANYTHING in a baby under one year old's ear. No oil, nothing.
Vicks is also not recommended (altrough I use it).
