Hi Faffymum,

That is a brilliant idea, a lactation consultant will be able to support you and advise. I'd also suggest just find out from her but look at the lazer as an option if it is breast tenderness,

You're right, it is such a short while that we can do it if we can! Please let us knnow!

Thanks. I'll keep an eye out. So far I don't have any spots and they aren't itchy. I saw one little white spot in the back of babies month but nothing on the sides of mouth. They are just very sore. I think I am going to get a lactation specialist just to make sure our latch is actually right.

It's tough sometimes because I am determined to breastfeed. I will suffer through the pain and do what it takes. But hubby hates seeing me in pain.. and he suggests formula because I am hurting so much..But I told him to please understand that it's very important for me to get this right. It's the best gift I could ever give our child. Deep breathes.

Hi there, that is the pain that Stella and I were referring to. If your nipples are red, itching and have little white spots, and it is in your baby's corner of his /her mouth, it's thrush. Then go and get some Daktarin oral gel and put it in baby's mouth and on your nipple for at least 3 weeks.

Orherwise it is normal, like Stella also said. It happens with 80% of us on the forum according to my estimation. Consider going for some lazer therapy. A breast shield also helps. Bepanthen on the nipples between feeds and wipe it off. Don't stop Bf and don't stop rotating. I remember that I cried for a couple of days and mine were even bleeding a bit but that passes really really soon. I never went for lazer because I didn't know about it...

There's nothing wrong with you or baby, no 2 women are the same and no nipples are used to that frequent sucking.

I have a question. I have been feeding for 10 days now and my nipples were sore, but bearable and now in the first few minutes of feeding. Now today, it is extremely painful, all the way through the feed. I find myself tensing my body and curling my toes. Is there something wrong? I heard about thrush..how do you know if you have that? X

Ctelly, that is exactly the problem. nurses do not want to help you breastfeed as it is more effort for them. you have to be determined and not give in to their nonsence
in the end just a different position was the difference for me.

yes, it is truly magical how they maneuver their little bodies to get to the breast.
this is also why alot of breastfed babies will not take a bottle when mom is close - they smell your milk

There was once a study where they placed the baby directly onto mommy's tummy after birth to find the breast himself. It was amazing to watch. Baby crawled/pushed himself all the way to the mommy's boobie and latched himself - perfectly!

Thanks Stella. all your knowledge really helps. My sister in law couldn't bf her daughter. I think it was mostly due to the nurses not helping accurately and also due to the fact that she easily gave up. I read a funny story.. (well I found it funny) it was about breastfeeding and getting it right. the dr suggested putting your baby next to you (while both are lying on their sides facing each other), with his/her nose touching your breast. and then apparently due to the smell of milk and off course mother nature, baby will move up till its mouth is on your breast and start to drink. this was a suggestion to ensure that the baby latches properly..
