That finally ground almond meal is what I mean by bits left behind :)

I agree the almond milk is very watery, but there shouldn't be any bits left behind. I strain it through a muslin cloth and reserve the finely ground almond meal for baking recipes (waffles and muffins, energy bars etc).

Will try the rice milk this week!

I agree, I add honey or xylitol, it really needs it. I also add a bit of nomu's vanilla paste.

What I also love about it is I'm the one in control of how thick/thin the milk is and how sweet / bland as well, and I know exactly what's in it which is great.

I normally add about 1 tablespoon of raw honey to the recipe in the link (1 cup brown rice + 8 cups water). I just cook the rice for 3 hours like they say and then when I blend it up I add all the other stuff, including the honey.

I love the idea of almond milk but find it very watery and like i'm drinking mildly flavoured water. My son is also not keen on it. The rice milk is much thicker because the rice is literally blitzed up into the milk and there is very little sediment left after straining, whereas with almond milk all the pieces of almond stay behind. the only thing with the rice milk is be sure to add some form of sweetness. I add raw honey which is nice. With nothing adding it's a bit yuck and very bland.

Awesome. I will try the rice milk soon - perhaps my LG will drink that.

Thanks Gloei. Yes I couldn't find organic rice so bought Tastic brown rice. Slimy is not really the right word, it was mostly because I didn't dilute it enough. Made more over the weekend and diluted it more and that's better. It didn't feel slimy at all just the look of how it poured made me think slimy if that makes sense. But once thinned out a bit more it's a lot better.

mmm....The slimy part sounds strange. What rice did you use?
I think a lot of recipes stated organic, maybe the commercial rice is treated with some weird starchy substance?

Glad that he drinks it.

I made almond milk this weekend, I like it and use it in baking/smoothies but my LG is not very interested in drinking it as is.

I love your all your clever healthy additives! Clever mom.
