Hi Maureen,
not silly for asking at all! its amazing how quickly stuff fades. ive been hauling out all my 'what to expect' type books for a refresher myself!
regarding what you can and cant eat, the only things ive heard is:
* to control your caffiene intake (one or two cups OK, more probably not so)
* best to avoid alcohol altogether in the first trimester (though later in pregnancy, according to my gyne at least, the odd small glass wont harm)
* stay away from anything that doesnt look fresh- particularly fish, cant think why you couldnt eat prawns?
* certain fishes (shark, swordfish, mackeral) can contain high levels of mercury, so are probably best avoided
* certain unpasturized cheeses are also apparently best avoided.
Personally, ive stopped drinking (all alcohol) and stopped using sweeteners in my tea. I still have one cup of coffee in the morning, from then its rooibos tea.
Im also trying to eat more healthily in general. though today i have a ridiculous apetite. i just ate my lunch (yes, at 11:30!) and am still hungry
