marijke, its a loooong story! throughout the pregnancy with ashley i had terrible kidney infections & inflammation (hydronephrosis). i had been seeing sue and ciska right through and they gave awesome support. i planned to have ashley at vincent palotti where they do the VBAC's with douglas' backup if needed and becasue its an awesome theatre. at 35 weeks preggers, i was in hospital for the 6th time contracting but not dilating. the thing about VBAC's is that the risk of unterine rupture is totally minimal, BUT if it happens and you are not near a theatre, you and baby will probably die. that;s why i was petrified about actually going into labour, knowing that i live so far. VP from here is 45mins with no traffic and labour starts on its own time. you need to be in hospital as soon as you think you are in labour. they insert a catheter to check if there is blood - there may be a small rupture and you don;t know about it. they also are hectic about foetal monitoring too incase there was a rupture but the blood pooled somewhere and didn;t come out. truth be told, i hated the c-section, it was so fast. one minute you lie down and the next minute there;s a baby in your face. i ended up having the c-section because i was scared about not getting there intime, as well as being sick and tired of being sick. the kidney issues were totally due to being pregnant as as soon as she came out, the kidneys could drain properly again... i was on antibiotics for about 6 months as well as other drugs. i was exhausted from work. it seemed to me then the easiest thing to do was to have the c-section. i wish now i hadn't

i had steroids given at that visit to the hospital at 35wks, and she born the next week at 36wks.
