It’s quite a common message that schools send out, actually. “There has been an outbreak of head lice at school. Please have a look if your child has lice and treat accordingly.”
An itchy head is a clear indicator of something lurking on your child’s head but how do you know if they have lice. And more importantly – how do you deal with it?
Head lice are tiny parasites that live between the hairs on your head and feeds on small amounts of blood. (Urgh!) It’s quite easy to spot. You’ll be able to see a live lice crawl on your child’s scalp or tiny, yellow-ish “nits” – which are basically the eggs that the lice lay on your child’s head. Or even your own!
We asked on Facebook how our members deal with head lice. Here’s their suggestions:
- Treat and prevent with coconut oil. Leave in head overnight. Comb lice out. Repeat once a week.
- Tea tea oil treatment maintenance spray. Spray once a week.
- Paranix shampoo when your child has lice and Controlice defence spray everyday. You can also wash once a week with the Controlice defence sjampoo.
- Use mayonnaise and rinse after one hour. Comb out.
- Wash with coke.
