Hi Ladies
Hope you are all well?
Sorry for being MIA – work is a bit hectic and trying to sort out things for my mom and then we are still building at home and I was away for 8 nights in Madagascar (unfortunately work and not pleasure).
Inge was so happy to have me back on Friday night that she hardly slept – I couldn’t believe how much she has grown during the time that I was away. She is clapping hands and moving backwards (seil soos ‘n slang) – no crawling yet. If you lift her bum her head drops to the floor but she is too happy moving. She is also sleeping better during the day now that she is semi-mobile. And she has 4 teeth already and she makes it very clear when she is hungry or thirsty – nananana and if we are quick enough then she throws her body back and cries.
I will come back and do personals a bit later
Have a great day

CorgansMommy - Corgan is absolutely beautiful! I havent had a chance to read your full blog, but have tried to read a bit. Wow, you've been on a real rollercoaster. My little boy, Nathan was 7 weeks prem, and in NICU for 23 days and that was hard enough! But I can relate to a lot of what you say, Corgan is a true fighter and really strong. I loved the part where he held your finger and you were surprised at how tight his grip was! Amazing! I am glad things are going well, and hope the audiologists can help Corgan! Look after your little beautiful blue-eyed boy!

If you are ready for it, there is a wonderful group on facebook, Neonatal Buddies.

Maryke, hope the boys are better now!

Sorry I dont have much time now... one of the kids is awake... we are all fine, just happy summer is here!

Nathan is almost crawling, so watch this space! I am so proud of him! And he boasts 4 teeth... I know all about it some days as I am still BF'ing...

Will come back soon to reply more! Sorry for being MIA, just so busy with 2 tots, SJ turned 2 last week!

Hi guys! Remember me? I'm terrible at this I know! Anyway, here's an update on Corgan...

On the 23rd of August 2011, Corgan went for his follow up hearing test. The results were that he has profound hearing loss in both his ears...Medication used for his lungs at birth are a possible cause, and so are blood transfusions...Corgan will need hearing for both ears as well as ongoing treatments and therapies, such as speech therapy. Impressions were taken yesterday for the moulds of the hearing aids to be made...

Here's a short version of Corgan's journey so far...

Corgan Layden was born on the 27th of October 2010. He was born at 26 weeks gestation - he was 14 weeks/3 months premature. His birth weight was 520g...despite being 26 weeks he was smaller than he should have been - the previous scans had calculated he was equal to about 23 weeks...Moments before he was delivered we were told that nobody knew what to expect and whether we had any idea what we would like to do with the "fetus" (babies are only considered babies at 28 weeks) and would we want a burial...BUT, he was here! And he was perfect...the tiniest little thing we had ever seen but just so perfect...it didn't take long before his doctor came to tell me that Corgan was in a stable condition...we were told to take one day at a time...He was ventilated for 7 weeks on and off...in the first attempt he only last about 9 hours before becoming too tired, he had to be re-intubated...the second attempt at coming off the ventilator was hampered by a chest infection...The third attempt went well, he was so strong...he was then on supplementary oxygen for 3 weeks...In total he was hospitalised for 108 days! During that time he also had an inguinal hernia repair operation when he weighed just 1,69kg...He also received 6 blood transfusions during his hospital stay...he had 3 visits from an opthalmologist to check his eyes for Retinopathy of prematurity, we were told each time that his eyes look healthy...he also had two visits with a cardiologist to check for PDA, he said his heart is healthy. The first time he was discharged, he had to be rushed back and readmitted straight away...he had picked up a cold or something and really started battling to breathe...he had to be put back on oxygen when we arrived back at the hospital...that day his hearing was tested and the test was inconclusive...we later assumed that it was probably also due to the fact that he was ill...4 days later he went home for real! He is such a perfect baby, no issues, no illnesses since he's been at home...just perfect...when he had been home for a few weeks we had to take him to the audiologist to be retested - this time he got a pass! BUT, we were asked if we could come for a follow up test in about six months because some of the medications used when he was born as well as blood transfusions could have affected the nerves that make us hear...Corgan is now 10 months old and weighs 4,9kg...

If you'd like to read Corgan's full story please visit his blog: corganlayden.blogspot.com/ - make sure to start at the earliest post, the day he was born 27 October 2010

And if you'd like to know what caused his premature birth and what happened in the days and even moments before he arrived visit thestoryofcorganlayden.blogspot.com/ - again make sure you start at the beginning :)

Hope all of you guys are well!

Hello!!! shoo i've been MIA!!!

Kade was 9 months old yesterday! And took his first 2 "steps" forward crawling last night!! Was really proud of himself!

Lizelle that birthday cake is stunning! I actually ordered all Kade's first birthday party goodies this week! A bit early I know but his birthday is 2 weeks before Xmas and it's a hectic time of year!

Suriya I also need to do Kade's injection next week. Shame poor babies. Kade weighs about 13kg's!!! He's a big boy!!

Maryke hope the boys are ok now? That's how Kyra was when she had viral encephalitis. Hope they're feeling better now!

Binks sounds like you're sailing through everything with little Vanya! Lucky you!!! Big girl!

No news from my side really. 3 men tried to break into our house last night while we were sleeping. Luckily my DH heard noises and got up. They were trying to get through our back door. They broke one of the slats out of our vibercrete wall and climbed through our 8foot wall!! Pushed the panic button and they ran away obviously. But i'm a nervous wreck now because DH has to go out of town this weekend on a conference and i'm home alone with the 2 kids. All my family are in Cape Town this weekend as well so i'm really alone!

Hi Ladies,

Sorry I have been missing in action. Work has still been hectic, also got a new person to train and it has been a real mission.

I took Shrevash for his 9th month vaccine on tuesday. He weighes 7.9kg, the nurse was abit concerned and said that he was small for his age. To me he is healthy and eats well, so I am not sure if I should be concerned or not.

Both Shrevash and Thashreya are doing well.

To all the mommies whose babies are sick, hope they get better soon.

Ster - I am truly sorry for your loss.

Lizelle - the birthday cake is stunning. I have no idea what type of cake I will be getting for Thashreya this year.

I would love to get to meet some of you, so if anyone is getting together for coffee, etc please let me know.
