Went to the doc on Thursday for my 24 week check up. Baby is doing really well, healthy happy and weighing about 680g. with nice long legs.
Then I asked about the VBAC. Well his response was not what I expected. He actually said: “ I think they are crazy”. So I got all emotional and started crying. So I couldn’t ask him what I wanted to, cause I was about to go into the ugly cry. He said something about a study they have done (in the UK I think), where they had a group of women who did VBAC’s and a group of women who had elective c-secs. In the elective csec group all babies were born without any problems, in the vbac group 9 babies were born with brain damage, I think 3 of them died. So he said he will never let his wife/daughters have a vbac. What I still want to ask him is why the babies were born with brain damage. Will have to ask next time round. He did say that he does vbac’s (about 3 or 4 a year), but he doesn’t recommend it. He will give me a vbac if that is what I really want and if baby is small enough and in the right position etc.
So I was really down in the dumps after that. still had to have my blood drawn for the rhesus thing… and all I wanted to do is cry. So I cried on my way home. Poor DH didn’t know what to do. He said he will support me if I want a vbac, but I know he really would prefer if I don’t. and what if something does go wrong – how am I going to forgive myself? How can I expect DH to forgive me? So I need to start making peace with the fact that I will have a c-sec again. I still daydream about baby deciding to come quickly and there being no time to go to hospital and whola! Easy birth, happy baby, happy mommy. LOL!
