Wow, that really is hectic! I'm all for choice so can understand why you'd want to come back here to birth...but you may well feel differently the further along you get...who knows?

@ Skia, Cause of endometriosis, I needed a gynea, I was petrified on them [biggest nightmare]

And I'm apparently a "highrisk" pregnancy cause of all the stomach issues/operations i've had in my life... so I think a gynea is a good thing, and i must say, he answers his phone every time i've called him this week [paranoid]

Oh gosh, it's hot here.... Bad! I've got my sister-in-law that's close, she's my bff [awe moment]... but my family is in Calitzdorp & Jozi... but close friends are here for me too, thank goodness!

I'm trying to avoid a c-sec cause man oh man, i was down and out with my operation in august and that was for the hernia... I can't imagine something like that not being able to do anything, but I've got to care for a baba? Gosh, I take my hat off to those ladies that have had that done!!!

skai there are no elective c-secs here, it is also very weird to be with a gynea. You cant choose, you have to go to a midwife unless you have a high risk pregnancy (which i now say "thankfully" i have). The medical aid also doesnt pay for a hospital birth so most women would rather give birth at home than spend extra money for a hospital birth. I might want to come back to Sa for a few months for the birth, but DH is not too happy about that!

That's so interesting how different things are done in different parts of the world. I also wouldn't be comfortable with a home birth, although I have read some amazing home stories. So do they never do elective caesars there? That's really hectic compared with SA!

It is also very interesting to read everything about the midwives ect. Here in Holland most women give birth at home and they go to the midwife from 12 weeks. I think i will be terrified giving birth at home, so i will be sticking to my FS and gynea and giving birth in the hospital with lots of painmeds! I am actually wishing I coudl have a c-sec but they only do it here incase of an emergency

hee, yes, there has been a lot of midwife talk going on. But if you have a gynae you like and trust then you would most likely want to stick with him/her...? My gynae had moved to a different part of the country so I needed to find a new one anyway. And I really like the idea of using a private midwife but still giving birth in a hospital. Chances of having a natural birth are quite a lot higher with a midwife as well as being more cost effective....which is a consideration for me as I'm on a hospital plan with pretty useless materninty benefits. But as Justine said earlier, things don't always turn out the way we plan...so I have to have a back-up gynae in case it isn't a complication free pregnancy or birth.

I'm sorry you suffer from migraines and can't take anything...that's rough! Hope you cope ok...especially in this heat we're having. I'm in the southern suburbs so can only imagine it's even hotter on your side!

You must be extra excited after having been ttc'ing for so long It's really great he was there for the first scan seeing as he's leaving soon. Do you have family close by for support while he's away?

It's been hectic + loving it... the nausea part and not being able to take my migraine meds was seriously testing last night...

We've been trying for a long time... [really long time] I've got endometriosis which made it difficult. And I just had a hernia operation in August which means I can't um [is there code for throwing up?]

He works offshore... and is leaving at the end of the month... so for feb and march i'm on my ace... [that's scary]

So excited, but so afraid at the same time... so for half the year i'm alone, hopefully DH will be home for the birth... [Shew]

Um, am I so clueless... no one has ever mentioned anything about a midwife to me? Who what where do I research...??
