14 years 4 months ago #224483 by Mienkie
ZoeCat - you're an angel. thanks so much. i know about ENS because a friend worked there - they give 100% and then you sign a contract saying you'll work there for a year afterwards. that would be fine by me because i dont want to leave here.

wouldnt it seem weird if i just called them up and asked? i know it's not top secret info but...? legal aid SA i think i'll try to call.

i called uif again yesterday and they confirmed i cant claim at all so if my work wont give me then i'll have to come back after being a month at home with baby  . i'm already going to work right up until my due date.

Thanks ladies.

Hi Mienkie

Apparently the following law firms pay their employees whilst on maternity leave:

- Edward Nathan Sonnebergs
- Webber Wentzel
- Legal Aid SA

Try calling them and find out the pecentage, and then you can take to your employer.

All the best

Hi

I work for a large Insurance company.

I get paid 90% of my salary and the other 10% must be claimed back from UIF.
My company pays a company called 'Momsassist" to claim back the 10% from UIF on behalf of the employees.

I have a friend who had a baby two years back and she works for an attorney. She also got unpaid leave. Will find out from her if her company has since done something in regard to their policy.

can i ask if any of you ladies that replied work in law firms or know what the maternity policy is at a law firm your friends/family may work at? i work for attorneys so i need to put a lot of examples of that on my report.

thanks so much to all the ladies that replied. its good to know so many companies do offer their female employees good benefits.

i called uif again today. they say they cant see on their system that i've been working for the past 2 1/2 years since i've been retrenched and i have no credits. they say you must work for a period of 4 years before you can claim again - after receiving unemployment and not maternity.

joybaby - call uif and give them your id number and they will check if you have credits. 0214685628.

Hi Ladies

I'm the same as Elamsmom. Also at a bank. I get 4 months at 100% then you can choose to take an additional 2 months unpaid. But what they do is structure/spread out the 4 months pay over the 6 months so you get paid over the full 6 months.

Our work back period is 4 months after maternity.

Mienkie, i wish you all the best. It cant be easy having to deal with finances when you should be concentrating on your new baba!
