Mienkie I will then be in the same situation you're in :(

I got retrenched 2 weeks before I was due to go on maternity leave.
I claimed Maternity, and then I claimed UIF but only for 3 months. So I wonder what that means for me.

I honestly dont have the energy to deal with this all now as our financial strain is something I'm so over talking about at the moment, but soon as its more relevant (at the moment I'm not earning money anyways, and will probably go on contract till baby arrives) I will let you know what they say.

First angel resting 25/06/2009 stayed with us a short 7 weeks but we still miss you.

Belaine - if you didnt claim then you shouldnt have a problem. My problem is because i did claim when i was retrenched. Rmb if you dont get your full salary from work you can still claim for the other percentage from uif. My friend gets 75% from work and she can claim the other 25% from uif.

Good luck!

I just want to ask, i was also retrenched last year but neve clamed uif as i was fortunate enough to start working immediately so will i then be able to claim now if needed?

Fortunately my boss said im getting my salary so its not needed but would like to be sure if something changes how ever.

Take care

No problem Mienkie

Try calling the HR department, and say that you doing a university assignment on which law firms offer maternity benefits and what exactly they are. You can always fake the university name and your name, lol

Remember the more information you have, the better it will be for you

when i called yesterday she could see that i had claimed for maternity and unemployment (due to retrenchment) in 2009 and said i have to work for a period of 4 yrs before i can claim for anything again. its apparently a new rule since 2010.

at this point i'll settle for anything at all even if it isnt full. i cant picture leaving a 1 month old baby with a day mother :( .

Mienkie - is it because the UIF cannot find your employment history or the other claim for UIF you made?

I really hope your company gives you full pay either way, not nice to stress about finances with a new baby!
