soon2bemommy2- I hear you. Water works well to help with pain. It sounds like you had a good experience.

Has anyone started thinking about pain relief options during labour. I had a spinal leak after the epidural and not sure if I want to go that route again

@ GML - All the things I am also thinking about. I really want water birth.

@ soon2bemommy2 - Oh wow that's awesome to know cause when hubby sees blood he freaks out! I know they do add salt to clean the water and they say its very safe. How was the pain? How far were you before you could get into the tub? Ouch I fear the tear down there it's makes my stomach turn. Thank you for the advise

I had a water birth with my son. The water was quite clean. The same way we don't bleed into our bath water during the monthly cycle - there was no bleeding into the water. My midwife had assured me that should I happen to poop, she would scoop it all out. LOL!

They added salts of some sort before I went into the birthing tub to keep the water clean.
The temperature never dropped but for the life of me, I can't tell you how they kept it warm - I had bigger problems: LABOUR PAINS!!

I'm planning for a water birth again - it's all I know. I remember while I waited for my midwife to arrive, I tried various things to relieve the pain and nothing worked quite as well as when I hopped into the shower. I couldn't bear being out of the shower - I stayed in there for a few hours until my midwife arrived and I was ready to go into the birthing tub.

From that experience, I do know that water is an effective method for pain relief. I didn't tear and my baby came out clean - with only that waxy substance. I saw no blood.

MommywannaB- I'm not sure about a water birth. Personally the water freaks me out. Like what happens when the water cools down? Do they keep adding hot water to keep the temperature levels?

Also, I am also not certain about the cleanliness of the water.

I'm not sure- but when I was in labour with my son I jumped into a bath full of warm water and it was the best thing ever!!!
