Hi All the Aug Mommies,
Thank you for the warm welcome. I am not a first time mom but it feels as if I have forgotten everything lol..well it is more than four years ago when last I had a newborn. I remember so clearly with Ava I was panicking during my pregnancy whether or not I will be a good mom and whether I would know how to be a mom....
And I went through a cleaning phase from about 7 months..working until what time in the morning to try and make my house as sterile as possible lol..it smelled like a hospital hehehe..
One thing I definately will remember and I have passed this on to a lot of mommies to be: "Your Gynae, the pediatrician, the nurse in hospital, your mom, your mother-in-law and many know it all's will give you advice and at the end of the day you and your baby will find what works best for you, every situation and baby differs."Exactly like Charnenay said, by trial and error. My day actually didnt start out so chirpy, I woke up with my first stretch mark on my bump this morning..and I have been trying so hard, bathing in Bio-oil, rubbing Bio-oil and Palmers Tummy Butter a couple of times everyday, not to get any stretchmarks with this pregnancy but its seems its inevitable. Wanted to ask whether any of you Pf's knew of any good Doctors who does circumcisions? DH and I deciced we are having Tristan snipped as daddy is snipped and for hygenic reasons.I am so stressed about getting a good Dr. for this opp. as my little man is going to be stuck with his winky for the rest of his life.. I have heard so many horror stories. Does any of the CT ladies know of someone who does embroidery or who crochets? My little man is kicking me so hard to day, as if he is doing the Olympics in there..

YEAH Robin - bump is looking very nice . That maternal instinct will kick in, don't worry. And, we all make mistakes - as long as we learn from it and can laugh at ourselves. I remember a video clip my brother in law made of my sister giving her daughter her first bath. It was hysterical, we still put it on for a good laugh every now and then and my niece is already 3.5 years old. She had the poor child sitting up straight in the bath while she "supported" her with one hand and washed with the other. I use the term "support" very mildly here because the poor child was flopping all around. Then she decided to dry her hair a bit with her facecloth while she was still in the bath and the child's head just fell back and disappeared under the face cloth for a few seconds All the while, my clueless sister thought she was doing a great job and had this smug sort of look on her face She cringes when she watches it now. So, like I say, we all learn through trial and error.

I am fortunate enough to have been around children my whole life and worked in a daycare during school holidays and for a while just after I finished school. Then, I went to America and did LOADS of babysitting for the obscenely wealthy for 3 years (also had the privilege of sitting for Tico Torres JNR (the baby of the BonJovi Drummer). But, I am sure I will make loads of mistakes with my own baby, but best is to just trust your instincts and do what comes naturally. THere is no handbook for taking care of a baby and I firmly believe there is a reason for that - every child, every parent, every family is different and different things work for different people. So, there is no handbook because there IS no right or wrong when it comes to taking care of your precious bundle of joy as long as you do it with unconditional love, the rest will fall into place.

Girly - I'm the same as you - a first-timer with absolutely no idea when it comes to what baby needs. I'm really hoping the maternal instinct will kick in as soon as she comes

Girly, I went to the Mr. Price at Canal Walk (there baby section is not really that big, but I went on a few different occassions and each time I went, I got something else. I went to Tygervalley once (the one outside), and there babies section was even smaller, so I don't think its worth it to go there really. I really, really miss the kids store they had in Canal Walk - the one in Somerset West has the biggest kids section, but I find that way too much of a mission. Not sure if it even is still as big, I remember from when I lived in Strand about 3 years ago.

As for the bed linen - I would definitely get a bumper for the wooden cot, not completely necessary for the camp cot. I also bought a sleep positioner/wedge for when baby is very tiny so that she is snug and stays in one place (will have to see how that works). I bought a pillow (the one that prevents abnormal head shape (also not sure if I will use that immediately, think I will just leave her lying flat for the first couple of weeks). As for covering - I am going to get a sleeping bag (VIX on the forum makes them, or you could get them at Mr. Price or a baby store as well), that way she can't get out of her blankets, then I will open the quilt at night so that she sleeps directly on the winter sheet, but I won't cover her with the quilt, I will just have her in her sleeping bag and cover her with one of her regular light blankets and will have the panel heater on in her room during winter.

And yes, you definitely need fitted sheets for both cots. As for bedding for the camp cot - it depends on you - as long as you have the sheet, you could just leave it like that and just use her normal blankets to cover her or you could buy a quilt or duvet cover and duvet if you want it to look pretty. It really is a personal choice, but the sheets are a must.

As first time moms, I guess we will learn through trial and error - that's the best way
Girly, I think we should plan to meet up for a shopping spree - I wouldn't mind doing it all over again LOL

So yesterday we moved money from our bond to do the last things for the house so we can do baby's room.
So DH can order his new PC (First in 7 years is quite huge when he's a pc junkie!). And next weekend we can move the desk into the new spot in the lounge, and we can start painting the room either next weekend or the one after.

Progress I tell you! Cant wait for the next few weekends, going to be so much fun getting it all done!

I am home sick with a fever. I feel fine otherwise but Ive had this for a few days now and its starting to worry me.

Mina I'm also going for mine once I book my hospital bed, so around 28/29 weeks I guess.
Doc didnt feel the need for me to do the 22/24 week one which other doctors view as quite important.

Hope you get to move into your own place really soon. But all in the Lords timing right?

Next weekend I think I will spend the day in Mr Price Home - did you go to Canal Walk or Tygervalley by the Virgin Active? Believe they're both big! I'm gonna have to have a budget though or I might buy the whole store! That's how I am

Ladies please tell me about the bedding, cos thats one thing I havent figured out.
So I will have a cot and a camp cot. The camp cot will be in our room, for night time and while I'm taking naps (yea right!), and the cot for day time only initially.
So I have to buy a new mattress for each of them. And then what? A fitted sheet? Cotton? Are you using pillows? There are so many fancy designs out there? Will your babies sleep under the quilts or is that just for show? What bedding should I get for the camp cot? Will you buy cot bumpers? Is this just for the wooden cot? Am I missing something?
SOrry for all my questions, but I go to the shops, look at stuff and come out even more clueless somedays. Porridge brain!

Charn where did you get the mobile from? I like the idea of the music. And have also heard that the mobile itself can disrupt them falling asleep.

I am due 24th Aug - so yesterday was 25w1d - we are about the same I have a feeling Kaylee will come a week late though dont know why...

So sorry about your experience at the 4d place. I've only heard good things at Peek a babe so you are in good hands.
