Luke was such a cutie this weekend after being sick its so nice to see my boy giggling and so busy!!

His stools were more loose this weekend so hopefully no more hard stools. The paed said that the stage 2 formula is rich in iron which can cause the constipation he said I should just give him some prunes, which I did not sure if that is what helped or not.

Do you give your babies water, I try but Luke doesn't drink it, doesn't drink anything other than formula am wondering if maybe that is why he has hard stools from time to time? Do babies HAVE to have water even if they are drinking formula?

I have moved him onto purity now seeing that is what he gets at daycare anyway. And I just wasn't sure how to cook meat for him and was concerned I am holding back on all the different foods he could have because I didn't know how I would do it. So now he gets a nice variety, eating the meats, veggies, fruits. His favourite is any kind of fruit.

I stopped breastfeeding just after 6months as Luke just didn't want to suck anymore, think my milk supply decreased when I started working again, so figured that was a good time to stop, no use carrying on if my boobs don't have much milk.

My boy is 7 and a half months and no teeth in sight yet....wonder when it will happen!!

He is quite the mover when he is on the floor, not crawling on all fours yet, but he gets around by rolling and pushing himself all over the place.

Also very strong when he stands, I just make sure he doesn't fall over and he supports himself.

Oh Pinky, I meant to say that I read somewhere that some babies get their first teeth as late as 15 - 18 months old. I guess it's not as though they're tearing through a giant turkey leg a la Hagar the Horrible, so they don't really need them for a while still.

Claudia, if the normal baby powder's irritating his skin, have you tried the talc-free powder? I think it's made with cornstarch instead, so you could always try a bit of Maizena and see if it helps ;) A friend of mine waited months for an appointment with the best dermatologist in Joburg and spent a fortune on trying to get rid of her baby's eczema, only to be told that "she'll grow out of it". Otherwise you could consider moving somewhere cold and dry, like Mongolia.

Hey all...
Yup, fats are important for babas so I always get the full fat greek yoghurt from woolies for James:) He has also had cheeze, but I am holding off milk - it will just fill him up with undigestable cow proteins when he is still breastffeding like a champ.

His fungal rash seems to have gone, but his exzema has flared up because I am keeping his neck soooooo dry (and I think the powder also is drying his skin out) I'm going to keep on going with the powder thought to make sure its well and truley gaone before dealing with the eczema. Argghh, he definitely got my skin and its sooo frustrating. At least he has no eczema patches anywhere else on his skin, so I think its probably just the powder. I've started using the sebumed baby soap which seams really good!

@ Des I hope you werent upset with my comment on facebook on Saturday? I was just referring to poor populations who are ambush marketed really (Doesnt it kill you when you see obviously poor women in shopping centres buying disposable nappies and tins of formula when you know it must cost the bulk of their family inome)

Ah Pinky, I feel you regarding the weaning off - Emily's weaned herself off me completely - this morning she wasn't interested in the boob at all so I think that's us done! It is sad! I think we find it so difficult because it's like Baby's saying she's sort of independent now; she doesn't need us any more. And it's hard to accept.

Re the dairy fats, thanks for the info. I was wondering why... I'm still uhming and ahing about giving her dairy - was a vegan for about 10 years before I fell pregnant and rediscovered cheese - but they reckon you shouldn't give them soya before two years, so maybe we'll try a bit of yoghurt in a little while.

Scribbling - wow yay for the 2nd tooth... Karla still has NO teeth... we think she is teething but nothing yet...
About the low fat yoghurt... it must be full cream because babies and children need a full fat diet if you give them milk or dairy... it is good for their development...:

I read this on www.wholesomebabyfood.com/dairy.htm

Are You Sure Baby Should Have Full-Fat Dairy Products?
Your baby needs fats. One of the reasons why formula and breast milk are so nutritious is due to the high fat content. Fat and fatty acids are essential for brain development to name one reason.
DO NOT GIVE baby 2%, 1% or low fat dairy products until after 2 years old unless you are otherwise instructed by your baby's doctor.

Some doctors recommend waiting to give lower fat dairy products until after the baby has turned 3 years old.

Karla is doing fine, but she wakes up so many times these past 2 nights... don't know what is going on... I also thinks she is weaning herself off of me in the afternoon... very sad for me though...

Urgh! Just lost my whole post!!! Don't know what happened to it and now I can't remember what i wrote.

Emily has her second tooth. And it only took three diaretic poos this time so next time we're not even going to know that she's getting one ;)

Beansmom, have you tried mixing the veggies? Maybe you can trick her.

Jacadebra, I'm now doing core exercises every day. Soon you'll see me on the cover of Your Fitness magazine, or something like that. Lia must be so cute clapping her hands.

How are all the babies and moms doing? Thread's been quiet. Bronz are you done with exams? Desiree how's Connor doing after the weekend? Pinky, how's Karla? Any crawling? Adri, any new developments? Is your remote still working? Claudia_B, how's James's fungus rash? NickyMG, how's Katie?

Oh ja, someone told me that you shouldn't give babies low-fat yoghurt, only the full cream (whatever it's called) one. Anyone else heard that? I'm not sure why...
