I think your doctor will ask you to keep your options open regarding the birth, as she cannot predict how things will progress, and probably has had experiences where moms plan for one thing and then are devastated when it goes in another direction.

You may want to be clear about what you would like and what you are aiming for - and ask if she can support you in that.

She will probably say yes - unless there is a clear medical reason why not to.

You also need to explain what you need from her in this relationship, and ask if she can bring that to the table.

But wait until the appointment - but try to be upfront when you arrive about your concerns and issues - even before you hop on the table for an examination.

Get the issue out of the way before you even get started.

Good luck.

Tell her what you expect from her as a doctor. Express what type of birth you want and why it is important to you and why you need her support.

These doctors are just people. They go to homes and families like we do. Just chat to her openly and honestly.

thanks so much Julz and reluctant mom, i will eb speaking to her on thursday about all fo this.

like i say i also dont know of any one personally that has used her and delivered? i am all for whatever birth as u say as long as there is no risk of baby or mom. i honestly dont mind.

it also rose suspicion when she didnt test my urine esp after she put me on antibiotics etc for having a bladder infec thats what started putting the doubt in my mind.

Like u say, there is so much stretching etc that goes with pregnancy and yes i know kidney stones is VERY painful and no i am not in that much pain but still she couldnt just say thats what she thinks it is...

aye aye aye, well we will see on thursday i am gonna be open and honest, do u think i can ask her about the birth of baby?? does she maybe perform a ceaser thats why she wants to give me a epidural? or what do i even say?

like i said before i didnt know that u can chose a type of birth i just thought that ceasers were done when there complications etc otherwise its all natural, as thats the way i have always seen it? but do u think i can ask her soemthing about this?

You know how they say you should not make decisions when you are under stress, well I found I was permanently under stress and very anxious when I was pregnant, and this is sort of when we have to make a hundred decisions - each more emotional than the next.

With my second pregnancy, I also felt that my OBGYN was not for me - though everyone else thought the sun rose and set on either side of her. I also got concerned she did not ask me certain things, and did not seem to have any real interest in me - I felt like just another patient. Not the uber-mom I felt.

I was really stressed, and then spent two months running around visiting midwives and going to other OBGYN's.

Eventually I did make the decision to stick with my original OBGYN, and I think the defining moment was when I thought I was miscarrying and the caring and professional manner she showed towards me then.

It sometimes is difficult for your doctor to hear your concerns, and sometimes even more difficult for you to express them.

Good luck at your next appointment.

Good luck Ashbabe - it's important to have a gynae who let's you make your own choices, provided it does not put you or baby at risk. Also important that he/she respects your wishes. It seems your gynae has her mind set on the type of deliveries she does and enforces that on all her patients???

Definitely talk to her on Thursday and tell her about your concerns. Also, tell her that you would like to discuss different birthing options and see how open she is to that, even if you do decide to have a vaginal delivery withe epidural - she should give you the opportunity to make that decision.

Again, good luck and let us know how it goes.

I am concerned that she didn't test your urine> It should be tested at each and every consult to check for protein etc.

As far as epidural goes no she can't force you. No doctor can force you to do anything.

I have had kidney stones and trust me you wouldn't be typing on moommie.

Pregnancy puts alot of strain on nerves, ligaments and organs so it is usually impossible for a doctor to tell you precisely what is causing the pain. If she has done the necessary checks then you should have peace of mind that it is harmless pain, but it seems as if you have a lack of faith in her. This should be addressed now so see what she says.
