Hi lady's,

I just thought I should keep you updated.

It's been 9 months and I did a lot of research into artificial insemination, and I can finally say that I am through the thinking stage. I am at the doing. - Knowledge is power

I made my first appointment with a fertility doctor, and although I am scared for the whole proses I feel ready.

Timing is still an important factor for me, but now I sort-of now what is the proses, and where to ask.

Thanks

Hiya Bella - Like Julz said the detail is when you will be pregnant and the EDD, what you need to focus on is the bigger picture, the decision, the treatment and the impact on your life and what you will need to go through to reach your end point.

Summer/Winter baby - and all the other stuff, is just stuff, and you can adapt really easily.

Decide on your end point/your goal and then be clear what sacrifices you will need to make, consider what the worst possible out come will be, and then work through accepting all of those. Starting this journey with a slightly pessimistic, but realistic view is a healthier way rather than being all "fairy dust and happiness."

I am a very reactive person and I tend to get into project mode very quickly and just run with it. I throw myself into something totally and get lost in it, often not looking up to see the bigger picture.

A wonderful lesson I learnt is to run full tilt, gather information, gather opinion, listen to the good and bad, however at the end of the day when the curtains are drawn keep your own counsel, and make your decision alone.

And really look and consider why you are making the decision - make a list if it makes your mind work better.

Then take a breath and wait a bit - let the adrenaline of the gathering and the frantic doctor and other visits settle. Then re-assess when you are and whether this is still something you want to do.

We often get driven along by the tide - willingly - but still driven, and it sometimes does do us the world of good to just pull ourselves out of the current and sit on the sand bank for a bit and consider where the tide is going.

I think it is dead exciting, but you need to do the journey, so try and take a breath and just absorb it all and go into it with a clear mind and a resolve that cannot be swayed - because there will be large rocks in your path.

Please keep us posted as you move along - your input might assist someone else who is thinking about doing the same thing, but just to uncertain to make the first step.

Bella, hats off to you for doing this, you are much stronger than me girl!
I think that timeline sounds good, not fun to be highly pregnant in summer (I was on my last couple of weeks in Dec-urgh) and it would be good if you didn't need to worry about baba with all the winter baddies.

Start treatment when you are ready and try not to think about when lo will arrive. Be prepared to undergo more than one procedure as you may not conceive first time round.

Good luck. xx

Hi ladies, thanks for the interest.

I had a Gyno appointent yesterday. Something I was dreading, because I made the mistake of diagnosing myself. You see, since I was a young girl and started my period I could never use a tampon. I thought I had "vaginismus". Something I am not even going to explain, since I was WRONG, and everything is fine. Such a relief :woohoo:

I did some checking on the web www.choicemom.blogspot.com like Reluctant Mom suggested. And it was very helpful. There is a lot to consider going into motherhood alone. I also got a number for the Pretoria Fertility Clinic, but my doctor mentioned a hospital in Pretoria, I think Woodlands, that does the procedure. (Does anyone know witch hospital it is?)

I don't want to rush into anything, so I am taking my time, and making sure I understand everything. Since I can plan the time of conception, I am thinking November. That will mean baby will be born in August/September 2011. That is probably late in the year, but after winter, what do you recommend? (I do understand the risk, that the first try might not work, but going into this with no expectations isn't my way of thinking)

Tell me your thoughts.
