file NOT SLEEPING 13 MONTHS IN

Ah...Deja, I cursed the teething stage. I always freakded out when moms said that they don't know why parents complain so much about teething, "they just pop out".
The teething really caused havoc with sleeping patterns for my LG. On recomendation of my doctor I decided to give pain medication and it made a huge difference.

Ha Ha, ja, I think you did more than your share on the breastfeeding department!! Well done, I couldn't get past 6months!

I am also semi lactose intolerant however I love dairy, it really is difficult for me too. Some days I just choose to suffer afterwards because I simply can't give it up. I agree that it will be much easier to just keep Sion off dairy. I just feel so sad for the poor children, soy milk tastes horrible. My LG refuses to drink it, except the Alpo brand that has sugar in it.

Good luck with the weaning, that is another thing on its own...

ps: I received my prize from Mom2b (nativa) yesterday....Wow! I got the most amazing hamper of products! There is a Soy based "milk shake" with vitamins that can be mixed with water for children from 1 years old. It is packed with calcium and replaces all the calcium intake loss from dairy.

1st Timer: R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Your baby girl will most likely sleep through from week two. :-) Girls are so easy!

We had a lovely "bonding time" night again. He went to bed at 7:30pm, woke up at 11pm and only went back to sleep at 2:30am! (After Stilpaine. But I think his teeth are very sore at the moment.)

I can't do the no-diary thing. It's very hard. Have decided I am weaning Sion and then HE can do the no-diary thing. He's on his own on that one. I think I've done my bit for "volk & vaderland" on the breastfeeding side.

My son was like thIs - he simply did not want to sleep! At about 2 he suddenly worked it out on his own. Good luck and hang in there - it will pass eventually!

Huggles, I am quoting from a website:

"Melatonin is a hormone produced in the pineal gland that is instrumental in helping people to get to sleep. It is secreted in greater quantities at night than by day. Apparently the darkness of night is a triggering factor, since the presence of artificial light has been demonstrated to affect melatonin production.

Babies, though, do not produce very much melatonin during the first few months of their lives. The little bit that is produced is produced at a consistent level — no higher by night than by day. Around the age of six months, however, a clear pattern in melatonin secretions emerges. The baby's system produces noticeably more of this hormone by night than by day. This coincides with the age at which babies begin to consolidate their sleeping hours, sleeping for a longer stretch at night and taking on average two distinct naps during the daytime hours."

What is melatonin and why/how would it help with sleep?

I also have always needed at least 8-10 hours of sleep a night. Even in high school I used to go to bed at 9pm by choice!
So also really struggle with being woken at night, even though the wakings are definitely much shorter and better now that he's lactose free, I would LOVE for him to just sleep through! Yes he does sttn occasionally, but it's maybe once every 2 weeks or so. Usually he wakes twice a night but thankfully now it's only for 10 min at a time.
Really hard when all my friend's kids have been sleeping through for months!

Of course my cousin's kids and my sil's kids have never slept through...

Deja, I am so with you about needing 7 -11 hours of sleep! Really, I am the most unpleasant person ever without at least 8 hours of continious sleep. That is one of the reaons why we have waited so long to start trying for baby number 2, I am really not looking forward to the nightwakings!!!

It really sounds as if you have looked into almost all the possible avenues. I can just imagine how frustrating this must be for you. I can imagine that you think that what if there is something you are missing?? Shame, I really feel for you.

I am so surprised to hear that you can give melatonin to toddlers! I started taking it myself almost a year ago and can't go without it! It makes such a huge difference to me. I am also convinced that it contributed to the fact that my immune system has improved because it is a very potent immune system booster.
I really hope that if you continue to give it that it will help.

My sister in law's one daughter only started sleeping through at 5 years too.... :(
I have serious respect for parents who went through that! Sleep deprivation is no joke.

Thinking of you, please keep us updated if there is an improvement. xx

Hi Gloei

I sort of got used to it. But am a more miserable person when I don't sleep. I really am one of those people who need at least seven hours of sleep, preferably 11!

He's been to a chiro quite a few times. I take him on a regular basis. He also had a thorough, as in THOROUGH check-up when he turned one at the best pead in town. We discussed it all and he said some babies do that. He also said Sion is almost too healthy. :-) His own child only started sleeping through at 5! He said I have three choices. 1: Accept it. 2. Let him scream and sleep-train him or 3. Try melatonin.

I am back on the melatonin again. I checked food labels yesterday and there is no way I'll be able to go without diary. I have cut out cheese and most milk products but can't go full-on no diary. Sion also drinks rice milk, as well as breastfeeds.

I gave him melatonin for two and half weeks after I've been to the pead. Now that I think back, I stopped it, because he slept for four hours for two nights. (Which is like a miracle...) I shouldn't have stopped. My pead said I must give it for a month at least and then make it less. So I think what I've done is, just as it started to maybe work, I stopped it. I'm now going to give it for a full month and then gradually lessen it to none. Will see what happens.

But then again, like you also said, I was apparently the same when I was a baby. My mom said I hardly slept at all!
