Wow, R2000 is a HUGE amount of money!
Did that include using the machine?
My homeopath charged R450 for a first appointment (for adults) and R250 for follow up appointments (and first apps for small kids). The meds are extra, but i've never paid more than about R25 per remedy.
Not sure I can afford R2000. That being said i spent well over R10 000 in 6 months with logan being sick, just on gp's, paeds and meds.
Though you did say R2000 was for all 3 of you so maybe it would be much less for just him.

I don't understand the whole taking him to the dr when he's well thing.
The first time I took him to the homeopath he had an upper respiratory tract infection. The remedy she gave didn't work, but it took me too long to realise so by then it was weekend and she wasn't working. So i called the on-call homeopath and he spoke to me for ages (finally said to take him to gp for antibiotics). But one of the things he said was that with homeopathy the key is to take them before they get sick. And I just don't understand that. What can they do if the child is actually well at the time of going?

Got some thyme tea brewing :D Just used dried thyme cos it's all i have but want to try giving him some. The cough that i thought had magically disappeared (it did disappear in the night) is still there today a bit. I think it might be allergies or post nasal drip related, but don't want it to develop into something nasty so going to try your tea :D

Ps. Sion's never had tonsollitis, so I haven't ever had to look in his throat. Also don't know HOW it will be possible.

I think I paid R2000 last time for myself, Nienke's and Sion's medication and that included a consultation for myself and Nienke as well.

Dr. Fieuw can see almost everything with that machine. He'll pick up anything that's funny and then do something so that it improves. For instance, he'll give you stuff for a month or three and also advise whether you have to alter his diet.

Nienke's 3, so she opens her mouth. :-) I could check if there were white spots. But I also know what her tonsils look like by now. She can also tell me if she feels better, so it's much easier with her. Her fever goes up to 39.6 when she's sick but I don't like a fever. I know some people say a fever is great because its their bodies way of fighting an infection, but I am very wary of fever convulsions. When her fever gets to 38.8, I normally give something like Panamor suppository. I don't even bother with panado. :-)

I have only ever taken my kids to the homeopath as a prevention method or for a check-up. If they are sick, we always go to the GP. (I live in the Northern Cape, so when I am in CT, we go.) So I have no idea how that would work. If it was me, I would take him for a thorough consultation once and then take it from there. My chiropractor also said if something in your body is "off" (like something's not "clicked-in") it can affect your immunity.

You buy the thyme or grow it. I get it at Checkers or Woolies. Then boil it in water and throw it through a sieve. It tastes quite nice, actually.

Where do you get thyme tea? I've never heard of it.

Thanks, that's really interesting!
What does he charge if I may ask?
It's quite far to drive but ya, I really am sick of all these antibiotics.
And whilst I really like my current homeopath, there have been a few times already when the remedies she's mixed haven't worked at all, so she's obviously not making the right mixtures for him. We saw her literally every week for a month, so i could understand how she got it wrong the first time cos she didn't really know him yet, but after seeing her like 6 times I would have liked her to get the remedy right.
However, that being said, she was the first person to finally take note of the fact that his ears are alwasy "a bit red" and said that's not right and referred us to an ENT who diagnosed him with glue ear and said his ear drum was not moving at all as a result, meaning his hearing was being affected. So really glad we went to her even if just for that referral.

Interesting too what you said about the tonsillitis because this last time i went to the GP with it (I took him to the GP because there was a scarlet fever scare at the creche so i was scared, and he had started vomiting as well) I asked her if it was really necessary for him to have the antibiotics or if we could rather just wait it out. She said his tonsils were very red and inflamed but didn't have white spots yet, but she reckoned they'd be there by the next day. She said she wouldn't risk waiting any longer and said we must use the antibiotics. I must say, once i got his fever down (it was only 37.8C and normally goes over 38C with tonsillitis, but was really affecting him badly making him vomit etc) he actually seemed fine and i doubted myself the whole time as to whether i should really have given him the antiobiotics or not.

How on earth do you look in their throats? I don't think i would be able to see logan's tonsils if i tried! If i coudl visibly see him getting better i'd be happier to wait it out, but i just can't see his tonsils or the back of his throat.

The tonzolyt is Herbaforce i think. My mom said i also had constant tonsillitis as a young kid until she put me on that and then never again.

Also, if it's so hard to get an appointment with your dr then can you actually get in while your child is sick? Cos in my mind if he's sick i want him seen either that day or the next day.

I should also add that logan was never tested for sensitivities, she just suspected he had developed them as a result of all the antibiotics. It was a suspicion more than a definite thing, so she suggested removing the wheat and dairy from his diet for a few months just to give his body a chance to recover.

Sjo! That's a lot. I didn't drink the Immunolex, he only gave it to Sion as a booster. He didn't test Sion for anything, because he was too small to hold anything. (He has a machine he uses that you hold).

I would really suggest you take him to dr. Fieuw. It's quite difficult getting an appointment and I usually wait quite long AND it's very expensive but every single time I've been to him the issues were sorted out. I'd rather dish out a huge amount of money once-off (you get all the meds there. He mixed it himself) and have a healthy child than countless doctor's visits and conventional medicine. Dr. Fieuw used to be a GP as well and he has years and years of experience, so he has that medical background as well.

Here's the number: 021 871 1777. You can google him as well if you first want to read a bit more about him. He's on quite a few boards etc as well.

Yes, keep him on the Tonzolynt (is it Natura's?). And don't underestimate thyme tea! I have doctored my cousin and my husband right with it and they were both very sceptical. Olive Leaf Extract is also fantastic for immunity. (You can give him 5ml thyme tea every half hour for instance if he gets a fever or has a sore throat. It's especially good for tonsillitis.) You ideally want to get him to a place where he fights the tonsillitis by himself. I saw with Nienke, once she "fought" it by herself, she didn't get it again, because her body built up immunity against it.

That being said, it was quite stressful. I had the antibiotics with me the whole time but didn't give it. My MIL was visiting and I kept asking her how do I know when to start giving it? I don't want to play with my child's health! Luckily she has a GP with a "holistic" approach and he is also very careful about giving antibiotics. I tried to keep her fever in check, it never went above 39 and I kept checking in her throat to see if it got worse. On day 4 she was completely healed! (I gave her a mixture of tonsilix and pentagen and lots and lots of thyme tea).

My GP told me truthfully that if I let it be, she will build up immunity. He said the problem comes in where moms don't want to see their kids sick. He said it's easier to give a mom antibiotics, because that's what "they all expect".

Can it be given to toddlers or is it for adults?

Ya, I'm really not happy about the amount of antibiotics he received. In his first year of life the longest he went without them wsa 10.5 weeks which is absoultely shocking.
After we started going to the homeopath (and she referred us to an ENT a month later who put in grommets and removed adenoids), he then made it to 12 weeks without antibiotics.
Unfortunatley he then got tonsillitis again and I took him to gp instead of going back to her so he got more antibiotics.

But he is now back on tonzolyt long term (the ENT actually told me to put him on it, but i stopped after about 2 months), and i've now just bought a Sinus and Post Nasal Drip remedy as well which seems to have magically cleared up this mysterious cough he developed 2 nights ago.

So hoping between the tonzolyt and Sinus and Post Nasal Drip remedy i can keep him well.
His first three courses of antibiotics were for UTI's which we sorted out, but all the rest were for upper respiratory tract infections. Having his adenoids removed definitely helped that, but I think the tonzolyt was also helping more than i realised so have put him back on that and will keep him on that.

I live in Kraaifontein btw - use a homeopath in Durbanville.
