file IVF procedure and cost

I agree with Julz....

Please please try a few more IUI if you can before going to IVF.

I really thought having IVF done will guarantee a BFP.... instead, a lot of heart ache.

This whole route is not easy, but we have to be patient. This is not something we can predict or force.

Stay positive. I do get my days, but mostly I'm fine.

IVf should really be your last resort.

You should maybe consider having your tubes checked. Not an issue if you are doing ivf but you may be able to do iui with your hostile mucus. Ideally you should do 3-6 before giving up and moving on.

They can check your tubes by doing a simple hysterescopy and can also check your uterus to see if you have adhesions. This may be all you need.

I honestly feel that doing ivf without having a full work up is an expensive option and they need to check your uterus to make sure you are healthy to actually carry the baby. The fact that you have fallen pregnant gives hope.

When it comes to female issues, I'm not clued up...

My husband has azoospermia, which means there is no sperm in the semen. Therefore they do a procedure called TESE where they make an incision in the testis to retrieve sperm. We were very lucky that they have found some.

With a normal IVF they put the egg and sperm together to fertilise themselves, where ICSI they take one sperm and inject it into the egg. I made a spelling mistake in my previos post as ISCI..

Due to the very little amount of sperm found wih my DH biopsy, they have to inject the sperm into the egg to be fertilised.

If you are happy with your FS, hear him out and maybe try another few IUI. Or get a second opinion. There are loads of girls who went for IUI which was successful.

I know that you will have success in your decision. We are all born to be mothers!!!

Thanks Ella Bella!

What is a ISCI?

I ahd one IUI and was unsuccefull. I have hostile CM, PCOS and Insulin issues. Have not yet had my tubes checked. Not sure what is the cost to that.

I had a succeful pregancy 3 and a half years ago. Then got pregnant twice sonce then, both MC.

No success with IUI.

Why did you decide to go for the IVF? (If I may ask? Sorry know it is a bit personal.)

Son born 2007 (natural BFP)
TTC since 2008, Loads of clomid rounds
BFP 2009, MC 5 weeks. Went to FS 2009 Diagnosed with Hostile cervic mucus, PCOS, Insulin
IUI 1: BFN one egg(No meds only HCG trigger, Staminagro and Glocohase.)

Hi Ika,

I replied on your earlier post re IVF aswell.

I had 2 IVF's which was unsuccessful. There are no guarantee paying the money for IVF that it will result into pregnancy, or so I found out.

If IUI is an option for you, rather try it, as IVF is the last resort and if it doesn't work, like in my case, it's heart breaking and you need to be very strong to pick up the pieces and move on. And trust me, you feel the cost to your pocket a lot more.

I never had the option.

IVF 1 = 2 amps Menopur day 4 - 10
100mg Fertomid day 4 - 8
Cetrotide 3mg day 9
Progynova 6mg day 8 - testing
Ovidrel day 12
Utegestan 6 per day after transfer

Cost = around R 22k (my husband had TESE which was R 6k) total R 28k

IVF 2 = 3 amps Menupor day 4 - 10
100mg Fertomid day 4 - 8
Cetrotide 3mg day 9
Progynova 6mg day 8 - testing
Ovidrel day 12
Utegestan 6 per day after transfer

Cost = around R 22k - meds did change only a bit

This was with Aevitas Clinic in Cape Town, and I also had ISCI done. Everyones meds are different. I think my was quite standard. Well as far as we know, I haven't got any fertility issues.

Please see this only as an indication for costing. I know there are other labs that charge around R50k for an IVF.

I know dr Pentz at Kloof Medi-Clinic, Pretoria is also similar priced to Aevitas Clinic.
