The laparoscopy is done in theatre. They basically make a 1cm incision in your belly button and they put a camera in to see everything inside. It's done under anasteshia and they fill your tummy with gas so that they can see better with the camera inside.

It's not a bad procedure, but it you do get quite bad body ached from the carbon dioxide they fill your tummy with. You'll be booked off for between 4 or 5 days, but it's worth it just to know all is OK! Gives you peace of mind ;)

The IUI is done at the fertility clinic and not at doctors office as they have to get sperm sample from DH, wash it, and an hour and half later you get inseminated - so in other words you have to have the IUI done at premises where there is a lab available for the sperm washing

The procedure itself I was told feels like a papsmear and it's quick, no anastetics nothing :woohoo:

Thank you very much Laliek! You are really putting my mind at ease!

The laparoscopy..is it done in theatre or the dr's surgery? How long did yon need to take off from work?

And the IUI, is that done in theatre or dr's surgery?

Gonzolina - hi! No problem!

I was on 100mg Clomid per day (take two tablets daily at night) from day 3 to day 7 of your cycle. Some doctors like to give Clomid from day 5 to day 9 depending on what lenght your cycle normally is - mine was 28 days for the past 3 months hence I took clomid from day 3 to 7.

I had a laparoscopy done on 20 May and the doctor tested for endo and if tubes are open etc. Mine was all fine. It is advisable to do a laparoscopy before you start fertility treatment as you can waste time and money doing these treatments and then your tubes might be blocked or you have endo etc.

My DH's morphology is 8% with poor motility after 24hours basically, that's why we decided to do IUI. IUI can work for people with only 2% morphology as well, and obviously if your DH's sperm count is nice and high and he has low morphology, you stand a very good chance with IUI, as they wash the sperm before insemination and only 5million is needed (washing being removing the good from the badly shaped sperm)!

I didn't take any supplements for the lining, the Clomid basically assisted with that. After my procedure on Saturday I am to start taking progesterone supplements to sustain the lining's thickness so that it's viable for implantation.

When you go for the follicle scan on day 12, they want to see follicles of at least 16mm and want 2 minimum for the IUI to stand a good chance. If the doctor is happy with your follicles and lining, he books the IUI with you (about 2 days after) and then you do the Ovidrel shot 36 hours before your IUI (mine is Saturday morning at 08h30 so I have to inject the ovidrel at 08h30 tonight). If your follies haven't grown to the correct size yet the doc will tell you to come back a day or two later for another scan. Follies grow on average around 2mm a day - so by Saturday when eggies are released, the follies would have been between 18mm - 20mm if all goes well - so they're big enough to burst!

DH and I had to do the funky monkey last night as they prefer for DH to abstain for 72hours before the IUI so that they can get a nice quantity of it!

I hope this helps you? Feel free to ask if you have any more questions!!

Laliek, can I please ask you a few questions about the IUI? You replied on my Clomid + IUI question about 2 days ago...

And since I'm doing the same...please help me shed some light>

On what dose of Clomid were you?
Did you have to check if your fallopian tubes are open?
How is DH's morphology? Mine...3%

Did you take any supplement to improve your lining? 13mm is great as far as I understand!

If I go for the follicle scan on day 12, does the dr decide then if it's the right time for the IUI, normally 2 days later??

And just one more...how long does DH have to abstain before the IUI?

Sorry for all the questions...
