Beatrice - I personally dont think Cams are a good idea as it shows that you do not know the person that is spending time with your child. That is why you feel the need to "watch" them. I know one can never trust anyone but I think the best way is to spend time with the nanny and your child at home and in that way you can get a sense of who that person really is. You will have a better view on how she is looking after your child etc. I spent two weeks at creche. I went everyday until I knew who all the people are and until I felt that K trusted them as well. I even chatted to the gardener on the premises :) Lol!

Nannycam.co.za is rather expensive - R4000 for a cam.

I saw on some local spy website that you get various nanny cams for about R1200 - hidden as alarm clocks, wall clocks, toys, etc. But I'll check a few shops this weekend. Any other ideas?

:( :( :S ,my word,i would just die,no one will ever look after and love ur child like you would, and we dont have a choice,we have to make a living,i have been thinking of installing a cam,bt my aunt says i will go totally crazy, wen i get home,i undress mj,check for scratches, bruising, anything that is not suppose to be there,we live in a block of flats, very secure, with security guards,i dont leave the keys,i lock the burglars,so if she needs fresh air she can open the doors,i have so many fears about wat she does to him wen i am not around, does she shout at him, spank him if she cries,my word :( :( :( :S ,if i ever find out that @#%^&*,i will skin her alive and feed her remains to the dogs, wat a sad and cruel story indeed.

It worries me that some people treat their child's caregiver so badly. It really doesn't say very much about their character at all. I HAVE to respect the person caring for my child. I wouldn't get through a day otherwise.

Ladybird, I would LOVE to have a nanny that was more like a friend - I think after your marriage and your children, the relationship you work on the most should be the one between you and your nanny, if you go the nanny route.
Too many people take that relationship for granted. I sometimes feel like shouting: "Wake up!!! That's a person too, and you trusting her to look after what is most precious to you, but you don't even care enough to show an interest in who exactly that person is!"

@ charnenay I was thinking the same thing earlier, good on you for saying it so plainly :)

@ Lori, yes I thank heavens for Belina. I don't think I'd be able to leave home without her.
