Joli, You are teaching your child to be independent. When she's older she will thank you for it.
My child also had to do things for herself since she started school. Just last week she thanked me for allowing her to grow strong and independent. She says some of her friends doesn't know how to do anything for themselves, and they are 17 and 18 year old. One of her netball teammates mother packed her bags for their recent netball tour. They arrived on the other side and the child did not even know what her mother packed. When my daughter was about 10, I went into hospital unexpectantly, and she packed a bag for me.

LOL justine - maybe moms also think boys shouldn't be doing all these things?

I heard of that angel powder before - where do you buy yours from?

Megan loves bubbles, Kayla hates it so they are forever fighting about the damn bubbles, maybe the colour powder will solve the problem.

Joli, now I cant wait to get home to teach Jaydon to start making his damn lunch and make his own coffee, it takes so much of my time in the morning.

I also let Jaydon put his own water in and he has this angel powder he throws in the water to change the colour of the water so he loves bathing by himself

Im actually quite angry with myself now for still treating him like a little baby.

OH hell, now I'm close to tears! My poor child! Can't wait to get home and give her a BIG HUG!!!

Justine - since she stared Grade O in the big school (last year June) she would make her lunch etc. When I did it the first time she asked if she could do it and I said yes. She packs bread with peanut butter or jam or whatever and I buy fruit and yoghurt which she takes. She sometimes gets a bit lazy and then Dorcas (my helper) will help her in the morning with that.

She's been making coffee since last year as well at age 5. In the beginning when she asked if she could do it, I helped her and watched her, but she's doing it on her own now.

She's been bathing herself from about 4 years old. Now when it's bath time, she will put the water in and all that by herself. She also wash her own hair. On weekends the girls bath with me and I will then wash her hair for her with lots of conditioner etc. :-)

She's been dressing herself from very early. I can't even remember when.

THX ashbabe. Sorry to hear about your dad :-( She's such a special girl. I think the main thing was that I was single until she was 4, so being a single mom with a child, working, trying to live life is not easy, so she had to be independent. I couldn't be running after her all the time and there was no else.

I think Megan (my 2 year old) gets spoiled cause we all do a lot for her. It's me, daddy, kayla & dorcas always on call!!

Joli, she knows you love her.
She is already a big girl by doing all those things and take it away from her, she might think you are not happy with the way she prepares herself. If she hasnt come to you and said, Mommy I need help, then leave her to do her own thing. I say its awesome what you are doing.

thing is she has been doing it all along with no problem so now why take that away from her and "set her back" to do it?
she knows u also always there if she needs help so maybe now after realising that we need to go that extra mile and praise their little socks i mean at 6years old, thats just too precious and i say well done.

My dad passed away when i was 6 and i had to do the same although my mom would do it all for my older brother then thats when i started not liking it, as far as i am concerned whats good for one is good for them all and i will be doing the same :)

Chin up, u know u are the best mom for those kids and u know they just love u!
U are great
