Those with 6 year olds

Since it's kind of regarded as something you teach your LG's there is really no one on earth I admire as much as a mother who teaches her son to cook, clean, use the washing machine and IRON.

Every time I come across a mother who's done that I bow down to her, she has all my respect!

I totally agree. Mothers do tend to baby their sons.

My mother-in-law still babies my husband. Her daughter's son is turning 6 this year and he isn't allowed to even dress himself.

My sister's oldest turned 5 in Jan and is in the pre- preschool. I'm not sure if she bathes herself but she has been dressing herself since 3 years, she goes to the toilet on her own and even locks the door (haha) and helps with the non scary stuff while preparing dinner, she can peel potatoes and washes dishes (the tupperware etc) and I remember last year when we visited she made me and hubby a cup of tea without help.

I have 2 older sisters and I have thanked my mother out loud for raising us to be completely independent. I sometimes feel like mothers are different with boys (sorry, not to step on any toes) but my husband was babied till I got him at 25 and I feel like I had to teach him everything about being independent.

SO, don't feel guilty Joli - I think it's a good thing and it gives your girls loads of confidence

Joli, I have a friend that sells the Acorn Kids products. She is in the Edenvale/Bedfordview area, but if you are not in that area, Im sure she will know of an agent closer to you. I think I paid R 90 for 3 tubs (blue, red, yellow) and he now knows how to mix all sorts of colours.

I think she might even have something to sort your girls out with their bubble problem. She has this bubble bath but its actually soap as well with little sea creatures in it and its funny watching them trying to catch these things in the water Let me know if you need any other details. Its really affordable.

You guys make me feel quilty for not teaching my daughter to be responsible and independent.from now on i will teach her to dress herself socks and school shoes.gradually she will like bit by bit.

Dylan is still young but Joli you are doing really well. Do you really want a kid that can't do anything for herself? Just because she makes her lunch does not mean that she doesn't feel love. What she will also feel is trusted which is so important to a kid.

It is really important that kids do these things and they really enjoy helping joli so well done to you.
