Morning moomies!

I just wanted to post a follow up again with regards to nursery school;

There were lots of tears still every day saying goodbye when dropping my little on off at school last week, Friday she managed to walk the pathway to her class by herself but as soon as she saw the friends and teacher started crying again.

Yesterday, being Monday, I expected big tears again, but my little girl walked herself to class yesterday....and then even went into the class herself! She walked into the minders outstretched arms and let her pick her up. :silly: I kissed her goodbye and off I went....I couldn't believe it. But I even noticed that all the other little ones in the class were also calm and sitting around playing, whereas the other mornings it was chaos when I got there!

This morning was even better, she ran the pathway up her class! It just makes me so happy & I definitely feel now that I know it was the right decision. I can see it in her development just over the last few days and also, she is not nearly as clingy, she happily goes to her dad now again. She is also sleeping much better at night now again and last night I heard her wake up and she put herself back to sleep again, which we haven't had in probably about 6 weeks pluss!!

I will post again once I have decided what to do with my little guy when he comes along and I'll see how that goes...

As per my personal opinion nursery school is one of the best place for baby care. Nursery school is the best for baby care and also a complete pre-school for development of your child. I think you have to go with nursery school that best option for baby care.

JeanineK, how has your boy been the last three days? Have you had a tear free morning yet? I find it interesting that both our littlies had the same behaviour that you mentioned he was showing on the weekend. It makes me feel like it really is quite normal and we have to just work through it.

The teacher also explained to me that once she starts coming every day and settles into her new routine things will be a lot easier and she'll be a lot happier. I think now she just doesn't know where she fits in and what is happening. I wish I could just explain to her and that she could understand... :(

Hello moomies,

Thank you for all the replies and posts. I posted yesterday and then for some reason it didn't submit and I didn't have time to retype.

I took my little one to school again today and it was a little easier again. She still cried but this time it looked like she would get over it very quickly once I left. Only problem is she did get a few other kids going in the class again that were happily sitting there playing. :( Shame, I felt so bad.

Thank you Huggles you might be right, yes I have been thinking about that as well. Also I think that everything else that has been going on is all just adding on to her anxiety. She always used to sleep through beautifully and probably for the last 5 weeks or so we have only had about 2 or three nights that she went right through. She wakes up during the night and immediately starts screaming - it's as if she thinks she has been totally abandoned. Poor thing. Even though she goes back to sleep quite quickly once soothed, getting up 4 times a night it starting to take it's toll now that we are back at work...

Joybaby and Anelda thank you for your post, it definitely helps a lot to read other mom's real experiences! Joybaby, how are you and your new little one doing?

I agree with wanting a smaller/ more intimate set-up for care for my little guy when I need to go back to work in August (he will be 4 months). I thought that I had found the right place for him, with a 1:3 ratio of minder to baby, but they are just too expensive. I have no idea where to start looking for a suitable daymother/ creche...I feel word of mouth is more reliable than adds and google.
The school that my little girl goes to only take from about 1 year, so unfortunately that's not an option. I had to take her to the place that I thought would be best for her, even though it would have been more convenient to have them both at the same place.

Anelda we recently moved to Midstream Estate so Elarduspark is a bit far for me to drive in the mornings as I work in Kyalami. Could one of the teachers perhaps recommend a place in Rooihuiskraal/ The Reeds or somewhere near?

Hi All

I have to say we tried the Nanny thing for about a year with our first one, it worked great but since she has started going to Day care her progress has been amazing, she learned quicker and because she is with other children she is much less shy. With our second one we put him straight into day care at four months and he is learned much quicker to speak and to do most things.

I also found that with the second one at day care every day he sleeps a lot better at night then my first did when she was with the nanny I think it might have something to do with the fact that the day care provides them with physical activities, where as the nanny doesn't always give them the physical activities thus meaning they don't get the required stimulation.

I just want to add if you are in pretoria elarduspark area my kids are in Pixiland, its a amazing school, they have 4 permanent teacher and a group of 30 children and they also do Gr R classes. If you want the number send me a prvt message and i'll give it to you.

Hope this helps a bit.

Hi girls

I want to add to the nanny/nursery question just in case others do read that part with interest.

I have been searching for a new school for my LG who is 29 months old. She has been at a daymom with 6 other babies/toddlers since 9 months old and I must say for us it's been the best decision for that age group to have her at a daymom where the setting is intimate enough, but you know you can trust who you are leaving your baby with.

She is now at an age where we want more stimulation for her.
So we went to look at a couple of nursery schools and although both schools are sought after and great reputation, they are just far too big for my liking. Kaylee is a tiny 10kg's of a girl and to go into a school with 3 age 2-3 classes, and at least 5 other classes ranging from baby up to 5 is I feel just too big a jump.
I found a lovely school today which we may or may not choose depending on some other decisions we must make. But it's a home that was converted into a school, and only has one 2-3 class and one 3-5 class and a maximum of 40 kids in total at the school (and it's not maxed out at the moment).
You can see the teachers have a real passion for the kids and take an interest in each one of them and they are not just another number.
So a smaller daycare rather than nursery school up till when they need to be in a pre-primary school is definitely the way I am leaning towards for my girls futures.
By the time they are 5 or 6 they will be able to handle a bigger group of other kids much better.

First angel resting 25/06/2009 stayed with us a short 7 weeks but we still miss you.
