Faffymum, the sun helps for the nipples. :-) Sit in the sun with boobs exposed. Works like a charm!

Thank you gloei. :-)
I have decided to take two a day and go down to one when my milk comes in nicely. I like that you can control it.

So far I am not engorged, thankfully, but I am getting more milk and my boy is finally sleeping after feeding. Yay! He is drooling milk when he is done. Lol. We are getting lots of wee and poo nappies so I think we are doing well.

Now it's just to push through the nipple pain.

Hi Faffymum,

Personally I think Eglonyl can be a lifesaver used at the right time for the right reasons.

Don't read the information brochure, it sounds far more hectic than what it really is in my opinion. Don't worry about it being an anti-depressant, it does work well for PND and general anxiety (for me it did) but it can easily just be used just to stimulate milk production too.

I was told that I could adjust the dosage according to what I needed. I think I started out with just 2 a day to see how it goes (was worried about engorgement) and then increased it after a couple of days to 3 per day and after a few weeks a decreased it again to 2 a day and later one per day until I stopped using it. My milk was really drying up at 6 weeks after being quite sick and I stopped nursing for a couple of days and had to kickstart my milk supply again and the eglynol did wonders for me at that stage. I was also suffering from mild PND (although I was stubborn too admit it) and started feeling so much better emotionally too after taking the Eglynol.

Only you can know if you need to take it, all that I can say that in my opinion it is a safe drug to take with minimal side-effects (it may increase appetite so be careful with eating sweet treats and unhealthy snacks...).
If you start experiencing symptoms of engorgement, rather stop taking it then you know your milk supply is all good.

Does your baby cry a lot between feeds and can't settle down?
How many wet/dirty nappies? That can also give a clue to if your baby is getting enough milk.

Congrats Faffymum!

I have taken Eglonyl and my experience has been it can really bring on the milk quite quickly. Rather take it slow when you start and up it as you go along.

How old is your baby?

The first six weeks are really important to establish your milk supply, so I'd rather just let baby nurse on demand and stimulate milk supply. Eat lots of proteins and make sure you drink enough liquids.

Remember your mommy gut is ALWAYS right. People can give you advice but only your gut will tell you what is right for you at the time.

If I do decide to take the eglonyl. Do I have to take 3 pills a day as suggested, or could I just take one or two and see if it does anything?

Hi Faffymum

I those first few days of breastfeeding, we worry about everyting

It seems like you are doing really well though!

I think milk-supply is naturally lower in the evenings, so don't get too stressed about it.

A natural supply booster is oats, good ol' Jungle Oats! Even the oats bars helps a lot, and they are great for those hunger pangs when breastfeeding.
