The extra skin actually holds more fluids so it offers less protection against STIs.

Sorry guys, I have never understood how circumcition reduces the risk of std's? Surely that little extra skin would protect him? What am I missing?

Vash that is excellent only my gripe with this is that our boys should wear a condon. It may reduce the risk but the risk is still very much there.

We decided not to have Liam circumcised. If he wants to do it when he's older then we will let him. When we took him to the local clinic on monday they told us that they are now providing free circumcisions in the clinic because the risk of contracting an STI is 60% lower in circumcised boys.

Okay so I am one of the "leave it to the kid to decide later on" moms however if I knew that there was the possibiltiy of my son having to go into the bush to have it cut and the chance of infection etc then I would certainly have it done earlier so wise choice!

The penis has little glands that actually clean the foreskin (although it may not always smell like it).

Your choices are:

GP that does them
Urologist (my personal choice should Dylan need one)
Plastic surgeon
Paediatric surgeon

Discovery will only cover it if it is needed for medical reasons and at 3 months many specialists will want to put the child under so there will be further costs. chat to your paed.

I had my son circumsized at birth/3 days - for me it was a personal choice/aesthetic/so he looked like dad/I preferred the hygiene of circumsized vs not.

I did some research, I felt the decision was easy at the time. I went with my OGBYN's recommendation of who I should use.

The process was easy, it did not seem to bother baby too much - he seemed more distressed at being away from me than anything that was happening in his nappy region.

But it is a personal decision at the end of the day.

We had it done @ 3 months
He's gonna have to go to the mountains when he's older & these days the boys are dying so we decided to do it while he's a baby. Spare him the pain, spare us the trauma of wondering if he'll make it or not
it took a week to heal. he cld wear his nappy no problem. The 1st night he was not comfy but after that everything was fine.
