Hey Ladies,

Julz and Flowergirl, I can completely understand the fear of pain around childbirth. I am such a baby when it comes to pain, if I stub my toe on the table I want to cry and will moan about it for days :)

I also had a terrible fear of childbirth, so much so that i am sure this caused terrible morning sickness until 17 weeks of pregnancy. I did a hypnobirthing course and managed to birth my little girl naturally without pain meds and she was big -3.71kg's

I think the media and everyone around us tell us these horror stories and it instills such terrible fear...

There need to be more positive images and stories out there about birth...

Oh flowergirl that would certainly cause a fear! I was told that I had no pain threashold so the thought of labour was enought to put me off totally so I really understand where you are coming from. I guess having so many surgeries made me realise I am stronger than I thought I was so I started reading birth stories and I think it empowered me.

Something else that has occured to me. I have a really low pain threshold and for as long as I can remember, my mom has been making comeents like: "I don't want to see you in labour" and "if you cry for this, how will you be able to have children oneday" etc. I don't think she did it intentionally, but I am starting to think that these comments "moulded" my fear of childbirth.

flowergirl, after reading Liz's reply on the other thread I did some reading and found that there is an actual phobia of natural child birth and this is why some moms choose c-secs.

I think that a thread like one suggested by Hasie and Joybaby would be a good idea where topics like this can be posted.

Flowergirl I agree with you. If moms didn't feel judged they may be more open to suggestion. x

Hasie - I like that idea.
I, for one, was an elective C-Sec mommy simply because I have a completely irrational fear of natural birth. Even though these threads often get ugly and some people make the most hurtful comments, there have been comments over the months I have spent on moomie that have really made me think that maybe, just maybe I could give natural birth a try if I had some help from maybe a doula or hypnobirthing (which I knew NOTHING about before Moomie).

So yes, sometimes the information here is great, but I hate the judgement that often goes with it.
