Found triple orange washing detergent in a health shop down the road so bought some as part of my best friends baby shower gift...she's also going the cloth nappy route. So by the time my little guy arrives she'll be able to tell me how it works

The Triple Orange washing detergent has a built in softener. Not good for cloth nappies. Or am I misunderstanding the 'instructions' - it says "acts like a softener". Is it okay for Cloth nappies?

What is Stripping?

If you notice that your Cherub Tree nappies are starting to smell strongly of ammonia – often obvious as soon as your baby urinates, then it may be time to strip your nappies.

‘Stripping’ simply means washing the nappies in a way that removes excessive build up of washing powder or creams and lotions.

Simply wash the nappies on one cycle up to 60 degrees with NO washing powder. Then, run a second cycle with 1/2 cup of baking soda or white vinegar in the rinse cycle. Rinse again if necessary.

Always dry your nappies in the sun and fresh air where possible.

Wgray, you should look at the econobum for the next baby, I think they are more cost effective than the MN.

I have made good use of my potty training pants over the holidays. Stefan is not quite getting the idea, I tell him: lets go pee, then he pees in his pants before we can get to the potty... but the training pants keeps his clothes dry if you catch him in the act, so you don't have to re-dress after every accident.

I must say, the Earthbabies "single soakers" can take more than one wee before the clothes get wet, but the MN potty training pants can only take one wee and if you don't realise it straight away, the clothes gets wet. So if I had to reccomend it to anyone, I would say go for the cheaper Earthbabies pants, they work better!

I can't wait for my DH to get paid (his company does salaries on the 15th) then I'm going to order the econobum set for Claudia. I am so over velcro covers!!! I want poppers!!! And she is wearing size 2 bambino mio covers which are really getting to small as well.

I would be very interested in your bumcreams, 2km!!!! I love natural stuff. What did you recommend to WGray to strip the nappies? Claudia's nappies are starting to smell a bit, I thought of giving them a good soak in steri nappy, i'm sure once won't be that damaging and I see on the econobum site they recommend soaking in steri nappy once in a blue moon to give them a good sterilization. I am finding that my no soap attitude is not working so well for everything. Maybe a little soap every now and again won't do to much harm. Will just have to rinse Stefan's clothes very well as he gets a rash from washing clothes in soap...

2km told me to strip the nappies with Bicarb. I did 4 rinses with 4 tablespoons of bicarb and then half a cup of regular spirit vinegar...then I tumble dried them...they are great now...I never thought it would work...wrote them off, but they are like new...soft, fluffy and nice to use!
