file Feeding your baby BLW style

Perhaps try sticks instead of cubes. Think finger sized sticks. B hated butternut until I found out that she doesn't really get the cube thing, now that I make sticks for her she eats us out of the house and we are left with our food minus the veggies :)

Ooh, Mia loved dried mango when she was teething. But what a gooey, drooly, sticky yellowy orange coloured mess it made :)

Ok, I'll try the cubes of food, but probably only on the weekend though.

So far Hannah loves everything she's had. Especially cooked pears and the butternut!

I'll get some dried mango on Saturday aswell
(It's payday then, have you noticed how everything I've written revolves around Saturday payday? ;) )

It really has nothing to do with how advanced they are.

The 'real' thing behind it is that if you do put food down and your child has enough time to just play around but does nothing then they aren't ready for solids.

Some babies start grabbing at food from 4 months on but that also doesn't mean that they are ready.

It is said that with this method the true signs for readiness is when your child reached 6 months (they say this only as an estimate but also because if you wait till 6 months their tummies are mature enough to start with anything - unless you have a history of allergies in your family) but the thing is that they should just be able to sit assisted and that they pick up food with their fist and take it to their mouth quickly and accurately.

The BLW 'theme' is food should be only for fun until 1 - before the age of 1 your baby should be demand fed milk (not always easy if your baby goes to creche) and that they should play to learn. The thinking here is that since they grow the most in their first year of life than they will ever grow at any other single time in their life they should get the most important source of nutrition they can get and that is milk.

She'll know it's food and try put in her mouth?

I gave Troy some dried mango on the weekend and he went bonkers! Screeched if we tried to help him or dare take it away. Loved it and sucked on it for dear life. Was so funny. Troy not into his veggies so going to wait a week or so and try BLW veg. He is still slouching in his bumbo seat. I think he is lazy. Loves his cereal and stewed apple/pear/banana. Sometimes grabs the spoon out my hand and sucks it. Don't come near him with a spoon of butternut or sweet potato though!

Ok, I have a question. Doesn't it depend on how advanced your LO is? I mean, what if I cook butternut cubes and put them down for Hannah and she just stares at them? Sorry, a bit dof. This brain of mine is frozen :)

I've been hanging around a BLW chat site tonight and found a couple of great quotes from fellow BLW mommies.

"I've never seen purees growing on a tree, have you?" haha

"We are the only 'animals' on earth who feed our babies purees, that doesn't seem very natural to me"

"Blenders were only invented a couple of years ago, what did parents feed their children before then?"

"My son rolled over on his own, started sitting on his own, started crawling when he was ready, so why should I decided when he's ready to start eating?"

My favourite topics on the site are those from new mothers having panic attacks about 'choking' and the experienced BLW mommies going "Yay mommy, your baby sorted out the problem on their own, way to go!"

*Just a note from me*
We are 5 months into exclusive BLW and every evening when we sit down for dinner at 6pm and enjoy our meal with no battles or difficult babies I stare in awe at my LG and her amazing ability to feed herself.

Will do my monthly update on the 30th when she will be 11 months old.

Aarg, I replied and then my internet just went down, or it was the website - not sure!

Justine, thats fine. I usually keep a bag of frozen mixed veggies in the freezer and just make that to give her if I'm lazy or she gets pasta (possibly not a great food, falls in the same category as rice in my books but hey, still better than takeaways!)

I read your comment on the other thread about going to the spur and I must say that is the thing I love the most about blw, keeping them involved at the table and enjoying different types of food. I also try to go for a healthier option or I just get salad since B can eat cucumber like it's no ones business.

I've also given B a KFC drumstick after removing the skin and wrapping it in paper towels to get rid of some of the oil but she doesn't really like that and prefers home made :)

Yay and boo :) haha
