Zel - good luck with the maternity leave discussions. I had my with HR about a week ago. I don't think my manager is too happy. As I go on annual leave on the 15th of December till the 2nd of January then my maternity leave starts the 3rd of January till the 1st of May, and I told HR I won't be coming into work at all.

Chubby - what applies to your supervisor should apply to you. So they can't make you come into work if she doesn't. Good luck with the salary increase.

It is really quiet here...

I also have the male/female thing. But I work in the agricultural industry, so it is no wonder. Farmers tend to think because I am a young female I don't know anything. But over the past few years I made a name for myself in my industry, so they have to listen. So now the problem is not that big anymore.

My supervisor is currently on maternity leave and a month or so after she starts to work my maternity leave starts. She already knows, BUT the work insists that I come in to work when necessary. I did that with my previous pregnancy, this time I am not going to, seeing as my supervisor doesn't go in to office at all. Then they can't expect that from me. Or I will come in and then extend my maternity leave with all the hours I had to work during my leave. If it doesn't suit them, well I will put my union on them.

Zelf - I am from Bethlehem in the Free State. Although the housing is cheap there are a lot of other factors that irritates the crap out of me. We have been struggling since April to get salary increases and so far nothing. Tomorrow is d-day and if our unions do not accept the companies offer then they will take industrial action. A few years back 2000-2003 the people did not get ANY salary increases. I NEED ONE, as the new LO will require a lot of money again.

Maureen, I get so cross when that happens! I had it a few times as well, but luckily not in the middle of the night! Hope it's not the nanny/her friends! You're in the same boat as me re the male/female thing!

I still have not discussed my maternity leave details with the directors - I know one of them is going to flip if I tell them I'm not prepared to work during my leave. Will have to do it sometime though!

Morning Ladies,

I did not have good night. I had this black women phoning me 12 times last night between 12.30 and 2.00. I put my phone on silent because I tried to explain that I don't understand her, and she might have the wrong number, but stupidity prevailed. Anyway woke up with 12 missed calls and 7 message. She left all the messages in her language! I asked the driver at work to phone the two numbers she used to find out what was going on. I have a feeling it is that nanny I let go, one of her friends behind this. But will see what the driver comes up with.

Zel, I am a permanent employee but if we don't have contracts we don't have work, which meanse the company will only carry us for a month or two. It is a permanent fight to be a women in my company, because it is 85% just men!

I need help!! I am in DESPERATE need of a new domestic worker for once a week!!!!!!!
Mine decided she wants a month of for some sort of cultural thing and when I phoned her to hear when she is coming back, she asked for another month!!! AAAAAGGGGGHHHHH!
