Sho, that's a lot of stuff to deal with for a preggy lady I'm so sorry to hear about what you are going through. At times, life just seems to be on a downward spiral hey. But we've got to ride the waves and come out stronger at the end. As you say, you at least have DH's support unlike the single mom! Isn't there something you could start from home? a lot of entrepreneurs are born from situations like yours. Some people actually find being retrenched gave them the push that they needed to do something they had long been wanting to do but they were too comfortable in their jobs. Just a thought.

You're lucky to be having a baby shower. i doubt i will have one. I havent heard A THING about a baby shower for me so i'm assuming that I'm not having one. DH and I are stocking up on stuff for the baby. So cute! he keeps coming home with vests and hooded towels and little pink outfits. Shame, he's gonna surrounded by pink frilliness. poor guy.

But I want to comment to Tiagosmom. First I really am sorry
They are sucky for doing this to you now - I also got retrenched a month before due date but they paid me out 4 months full pay. And I had only worked there 2 years.
Because essentially they are putting you in a position where not only are you unemployed but you cannot pursue new work for 3 months ie its a 3 month income loss.
I would contact a labour lawyer - post on moomie for advice - find one that doesnt take a fee unless you win the case.
In the meantime, be aware that you can claim for unemployment. BUT very importantly, you need to first claim for Maternity, and once that's paid out then apply for UIF unemployment. If you do the unemployment first, you wont be able to claim for maternity. Based on earning 0% salary during 'maternity' you could get up to 50% of your salary for 4 months (I cant remember the figures exactly) - Vanessa who used to be with Tums2Mums UIF (Robyn what is the new company name???) will be able to advise you on that aspect of it, send her an email.
As per labour law, the company is obliged to pay out 1 weeks pay for every year worked there. However, if you have guaranteed bonus's or 13th cheques, they have to also pay you pro rata of your bonus. And they have to pay out any leave pay. On top of this, they have to apply for a tax directive from SARS in order to get a tax break on these figures that you dont loose half of it to tax. Only once tax directive is approved can they finalize the final payment.

Hi all, sorry been mia. So with my companys great timing they sent me a letter yesterday ( a month before Im supposed to go on maternity leave) saying they are retrenching 4 of us at the end of August and I am one of those people anyway I called ccma to find out what I can do and apparently nothing they have covered themselves perfectly by giving enough notice and they are only paying out a whole weeks pay ( I mean really what is that going to help)but apparently they only have to pay out a week for every year completed and Ive only been here since feb last year. Anyway I was very upset as there was no for warning or anything so was a huge shock but feeling better today. The one other girl is a single mom so I feel very fortunate that atleast my husband is able to support us still - will just be a bit tight as we've also just moved into our new home ( great timing hey). Flip been such a bad year for us. In Dec last year we had a robbery at home and they got away with alot of money and since then things have just gone bad, my husbands business has slowed down alot (as I know many have), last month my dad was hjacked and driven around for a while before they dropped him off in the township and now this. Anyway no use crying over spilt milk, my little one also seems to have a tummy bug so had a sleepless night.

On a lighter note cant believe I only have 8 weeks left, baby shower is on 17 Aug I think, we're supposed to be putting laminated floors in the bedrooms in Aug ( now I dont know anymore) so I've been waiting for that and then I can set up his room. We've decided to name baby Rafael. DOing a wild animal theme in his room, luckily I have all the big stuff like cots, pram, monitor from my last son ( only 2 years old) so I dont have to get all of that again. I hope you're all having a better week that I am.

Zoecat, check their site out as they definitely dont sell Chelino - azbaby.co.za/ also just make sure I asked online on facebook if its worth spending a little bit more money on a travel system. Also they open only on a sat from 9 - 2pm.

Lauz: Glad your scan went well, and that baby is growing. I also heard about AZEE in Fordsburg, A friend mentioned that they probably cheaper than babycity. Will try take a drive there over the weekend and check it out.

Belaine: So glad that most of your stuff are gifts. You are truly blessed. I have seen the Chelino pram. Not sure of the exact name, but Babies R Us has it for R1700. I know it has a car seat and its pretty ok for us ladies to handle and fold.

About the pajamas: I've seen the button down ones at Edgars over the weekend, it was already reduced. Only thing they didnt have any small sizes.

I have been irritable today, don't know why, think its the hormones. And I'm feeling absolutley hungry as well. I have already eaten my lunch, and still hungry.
