@peytonsmum I'm sure whatever happens you'll be strong enough to get through it, that said I'm sure everything will be totally fine!

I also got my discovery bag, I really like the goodies.

How are you ladies? I'm currently battling a bad cold (all I have is nasal spray )

Hi Ladies

Just busy getting all my ducks in a row :)
I have informed discovery of our pregnancy - and used the authorization number to book my bed and Panorama Mediclinic. Very excited!

For those of you that don't know:

Vitality members receive a baby bag with goodies (which you collect at Toys r us).

Medi clinic also hands out a bag with goodies in during your stay.

If you join dischem baby, you will receive a beautiful baby bag also filled with goodies. You just need to spend more than R300 during the duration of your pregnancy :)

I believe bennets also sends a care package of samples when registering on their website

Go take advantage of these little freebies :)

Hello Mommies

it has been a while since I have been on here!

I am officially 16 weeks :)

I have been so busy with work and travelling that I totally forgot to book my first trimester Down's test. Actually i think I subconsciously did not want to know.

So when i went for my scan on Monday, I mentioned this to my gynae and she sent to Pathcare to have blood drawn for the Down's test.

I received the dreaded call the next morning to inform me that I tested very high for Down's - 1:120 and that she recommends I have an amnio done to rule out any possibility. I was totally besides myself with worry.

She managed to get me into the Fetal Assessment Centre opposite the Kingsburg Hospital on Wednesday and I met with Dr Morris who was great at explaining everything.
She suggested that we first have a scan done to check for the physical signs like the space between the nuchal fold, the nose bone, a short leg bone, etc. If she ticked any of these boxes, then I would need to have the amnio or the harmony test which is non evasion - basically blood is drawn from the mum and sent to the US and you receive the results within 10 days - costs R10k and medical aid does not cover it. She said the amnio would cost around R6800 (again i had no idea it would cost this much!)

My family, friends and I have been praying so faithfully and all I did whilst she performed the scan was pray.

As she checked each one she said "Happiness, this is what we want to see" and my risk has now moved from 1:120 to 1:500. So i am not totally in the clear, but my risk is less.

I decided against the amnio, because of three reasons, even if i tested positive, that wasn't going to change my decision to have this baby i prayed so hard for, it carries a risk of miscarriage and it very costly.

So i am keeping the faith and staying positive!

Oh and it's a girl! Dad is over the moon and even though i secretly hoped it would be a boy, i am also so happy!

I feel more tired and tired in my second trimester than i was in my first, which is usually the other way about for most ladies - go figure.

My due date has moved to 6/11
