Clueless I actually have no idea... the umbilical cord is the link between baby & placenta. And if the placenta starts calcifying, it stops working? So I'm not sure how it affects the umbilical cord?

Lol! I can still remember waking my hubby up @ 2am after my water broke and I had contractions since 1am. Not knowing how he would react, I just woke him gently and said "Don't panic, BUT I think it's time"... He just looked at me stunned and said "but it's too early"... and then he just went into overdrive ready to go to hospital.

It was quite an experience, but thinking back - it was awesome! There wasn't a minute even for stressing or worrying about anything...

Whatever happens with Larissa, I'll be prepared and in the know

My dr had an emergency c section, but atleast its here so i wait.

@clueless, regarding the nail polish, i wanted to do my nails too last weekend and my sister reminded me that it was removed the last time, last year as well i had a fructure on my arm and they removed it when doing the op. but i think some dont.

And my toddler, my nanny is live in so she will be there and hubby wont be sleeping at the hospital too so am sorted when it comes to that.

Clueless, with regards to your question on the toddler, because DH has no family (parents past away when he was 14) and my mom is all we have we have had to make plans with friends, just incase. So I have told all four of them to be on standby day and night just incase. Will need to notify my day mother as well of who we have if my lg needs to be picked up during the day. In your situation if you do happen to go into labour but are scheduled for a c-section I would just mention to your gynae what the situation is maybe they could have a nurse assist looking after your little one while you in theatre or until someone I arrives.

Oh another question. After a discussion with my gynae, we opted not to go for the whole cryosave freezing of cord blood and cells. But I'm curious, if the placenta is calcified like in my case, is the umbilical cord and cells it still viable for freezing? LouiseMarie, I think it was you who said that your placenta last time was sent away and therefore they would not have been able to use for encapsulation, it's obviously a different story with cord blood but it started me thinking about this...

Kimmi and Juanita, thinking of you both! Almost there! Lilly, don't be frightened by predictions and nonsense. Nothing bad is going to happen and sounds like your doctor has a good eye on you and baby. It will be fine!

LM, thanks for the info on the placenta! Wow, you had an interesting time with your first! I told hubby last night about your experience, and that we should keep an eye on things. He is SO relaxed about everything though, he really trusts our doctor. Which is good. But I will wake him up at night (like Monday night), after being nauseous and throwing up, and tell him I have cramps, and he'll just say, ok, let me know if we need to go to hospital. And then turn around and fall asleep again. Hmph!!

AFM, I'm doing ok, monitoring baby's kicks and not too uncomfortable. I'm breathing ok without pressure on my lungs (I had that quite bad in my previous pregnancy)and therefore I think baby is quite low. But Oh My Goodness the CONSTANT feeling of needing to pee!!! As long as I'm sitting down, I'm reasonably ok, but I can not stand up or walk around, I immediately feel like I need to go RIGHT THERE AND THEN. Makes going to the shops or anywhere a massive pain, and my ML only starts on Friday. Are you guys experiencing this too? It has been there since 14 weeks, but now it's unbearable!

I have two questions this morning. Anyone with gel nails or polish heard that it needs to be taken off before you can have a spinal or epidural (or normal general anesthesia, but hopefully that doesn't apply in our case)? One of the ladies at work just warned me, and I was not aware of this. I only recently started having gel nails, so this is new to me...

Another question, for the ladies with toddlers. What are your backup plans for your toddler if you go into labour, say, in the middle of the evening or at night? If I have a scheduled c-sect as planned, my little girl will be in school for the day and hubby will just fetch her in the afternoon as normal, and bring her to hospital. But if i go into labour, or even if the c-sect has to be done in the afternoon, we don't really have a backup plan. My parents and in-laws will come through for the birth, but they live far, so they wont be in Jhb in time to manage my LG if things have to happen quickly. We have friends close, but no-one that we're comfortable just calling up in the middle of the night to drop off our toddler, and not have her completely freaked out. What are your situations like?

Shame PP I suppose with the lack of sleep you have the positive side for El eating really well! Glad her check up has gone well as well.
