I also eat naartjies all the time and never heard anything like that before First time mom.

Is anyone here on Discovery Coastal saver? What happens if the funds in your medical savings account is used up? Do I have to pay for my consultations? Kinda stressing about this now :(

First T M

Lololololololololol (sorry but its funny haha) where on earth did your DP hear that? I eat an orange every day and with my first I even took vit c supplements every day
My daughter had jaundice, but it was because she was born at 37 weeks. She is also nowhere near blind. Don’t worry so much, as long as you eat in moderation
I eat everything except raw fish and soft cheeses like camembert

Jooste - You have still been on my mind. I am thinking of you today and sending love. I hope all goes well

DebbieF - I'm happy the scan went well, you probably just are a bit earlier than you thought but I wouldn't worry too much.

Spirited Mama - I'm glad the pains are better. Every twinge I have terrifies me... I didn't realise pregnancy caused so much worry.

First-Time-Mom - I've just eaten an orange. I have never read or heard anything about them causing jaundice or blindness. I just checked on my Ovia app (there is a food safety lookup) and they are safe to eat.

All the rest of the ladies: I'm glad the MS is letting up and everybody is feeling a bit better. I'm glad the scans have been going well.

My grandparents barely reacted when I told them, they were very calm. They did enquire a bit to whether we would get married but I told them I don't want to get married before the baby is born. We are just sticking with our original plan of getting engaged soon-ish and married once we have saved enough, probably next year. Otherwise, they almost seemed a bit excited. So I would say it went well.
My NT scan is booked for 2 August at the Fetal Assessment Centre - I'll be 13 weeks - and they just told me that they will likely be able to tell me the gender. I'm quite excited! I know I shouldn't have a preference but I want a girl, although I think it will be a boy. So we will see in 1 week and 6 days.

Have a nice day, ladies

Morning Moomies,

@ Jooste - thinking of you and sending you loads of hugs xx

@ Firt-time-mom - I almost just had a heart attack reading your post  I have been eating 1 sometimes 2 naartjies every day. It's a good source of Vitamin C and is good to help build up your immune system against colds & flu. I immediately googled it as I have not come across anything that mentioned not to eat oranges or naartjies....

This is what I came across... " Why you need vitamin C during pregnancy -
Both you and your baby need vitamin C daily because it's necessary for the body to make collagen, a structural protein that's a component of cartilage, tendons, bones, and skin. Based on animal studies, some researchers believe that vitamin C deficiencies in newborn babies can impair mental development.
Also known as ascorbic acid, vitamin C is essential for tissue repair, wound healing, bone growth and repair, and healthy skin. Vitamin C helps your body fight infections and acts as an antioxidant, protecting cells from damage."

You need about 85mg of vitamin C daily

I agree with Maryke - I think as long as it is in moderation it should be fine. Go with what your gut tells you - it is scary being a first time mom, but you will know what is good for you and your baba and what is not.

Glad to hear everyone is doing better :)

Tanya - good luck with the 2 weeks...not long to go :woohoo:

Hoping everyone will have a super duper day!

@ First-time Mom - I am only 6 weeks and 5 days and I feel the same, I am also a first timer.

Before I eat something I google or read up.

I do believe too much of a good thing can be bad for you. But I mean my mother said she craved coke a cola badly and drank a lot of it. It contains caffeine.... and I read caffeine can lead to MC etc. I think if in moderation you can eat a little of everything, I am struggling with my nicotine addiction...

I think a naatjie vs a cigarette is probably MUCH better.

Good morning Ladies,

I have been so busy with work and everything in between but I have been reading your posts daily.

Jooste - Im very sorry for your loss, I pray that the Lord comforts you during this time of pain and may His grace be with you today as you have your D&E. What you are going through is the worst any mother can ever go through. Stay strong.

AFM: Week 15 this week.
I have been crying all morning. :( I woke up at around 2am this morning and had about two naartjies - this has become my morning snack as I wake up very very hungry, an hour later I was kissing the toilet pot as it all came out. I wasn't too worried as I did not feel any pain, just a bit of discomfort. I sent the DP an sms letting him know what had happened - I was NEVER ready for his response when he woke up this morning. He told me that oranges causes jaundice - which could lead to blindness. He was very upset that i did not know this (being a first time mom and all) - I found myself on the side of the road this morning, balling my eyes out thinking that I'm going to be such a bad mother  - of course he didn't understand what the fuss was all about - typical male.

Now after the whole commotion - I began wondering what effect emotional stress and crying can have on my baby - which made me WORRY MORE!!!

I hate this. I'm not aiming to be the perfect mother - I just want to be good-enough, I just wish everybody else could see that  I'm sorry for the long post.
