You see, Lientjie, your way of handling my difference of opinion is MUCH better than accusing me of not being brave and blahblahblah. THANSK for being honest and open. And thanks for understanding that I have doubts and opinions, that may be different from yours. I do agree with on not starting solids to early. A family member of dh started feeding her baby family food from 2 weeks. Pureed of course but with added sugar and salt and such - that poor child suffers from alot of stuff. Like diabetes, allergies, and more - which I think may be because he was fed that stuff from as young as 2 weeks. I could be wrong, but it sure contributed.

Okay... I've obviously missed a lot... ;)

Just so that everyone knows... I plan to do BLW with my LG as well. I've read a lot about it, and I believe the pro's is much more than the con's. (if you don't understand/know something about it - and want to know more - please ask and I'll try to answer).

She'll be 6 months next week and even though she's sitting up very well for a while now, we've decided to wait until this weekend to start with solids.

The reason for this is that I suffer from digestive problems (IBS, etc) and I believe part of the reason for this (not the only one, but I'm sure it contributed) is being fed cereal, etc from too young an age. Back then moms were advised to start with cereal from as young as 6weeks!!! My SIL is a doctor and she also asked me (when I was still pregnant) to please not start too early (ie before 5 or 6 months) with solid food.

Please don't misunderstand me - just wanted to tell my side of the story and what we'll be doing. Every mom is entitled to her own opinion and raise her kids the way she wants to. :)

EP - so sorry to hear about the loss in your family.

Shariefa - I can't even put into words how my heart aches for you.

I'll be thinking of both your families in my prayers (((Hugs)))

Hmmmmm, yeah zodwa, I hear you loud and clear... So great it that is working out so well for you. Pity you completely misunderstood what I've been trying to say. Well, I guess we should just agree to disagree, hmmmm :-D.

How is everybody doing today?

We are still all sick... I wish it can just be summer now, I really hate winter.

Tomorrow is the burial, of my great uncle. Please think of my family, especially his wive, kids and grandkids...?

U not stepping on toes
Ruru is quiet ahead, he can sit all by himself & is now trying to crawl.
A baby is ready for solids when he can sit upright & take food to his mouth by himself. He's been doing this since 4.5 months. Normally its 6/7 months when babies can do this.
The food is cooked therefore soft, he purees it in his mouth all by himself then swallows. he used to gag in the beginning while he was learning, now he's a pro at swallowing.
It was so funny when I told my mom bout it, she was like "does he have teeth???"
Here in Pakistan babies are fed normal food from btwn 4/6 months. The only diff is the mom puts the food in the babies mouth by herself. Nothing is mashed or pureed they eat what the adults eat & the population is quiet big here. So my nanny isnt really surprised with what Im doing, she's just surprised I let him play with it & let him control the pace he eats at
Yes traditionally its purees but babies are more intelligent than we give them credit for.

Ruru's fav thing is cauliflower & peaches. he will ignore everything on his tray in favour of that so to make him try pumpkin, had to put nothing but pumpkin infront of him.
He dsnt suffer from constipation or tummy cramps, hvnt seen any of his foods in his poop yet, so I guess they digested

Today was so cute, he stood on all fours but didnt move. Then when he tried he fell down flat & he tried again!!!

i also cooked for Jaqi, pureed an d froze. It is much much cheaper than purity, and I know EXACTLY what goes in. Purity even has salt in it, read the label!!! Salt is a big no-no in my honest opinion. I don'y even like giving my 9 year old salt. Yeah....Nixie, I am not sure about BLW either. Good for those mommies who are doing it - I just feel when my baby is ready she will eat "normal" food and feed herself with a fork or spoon or even her hands. When the time is right :-) Every baby differs as to whenhe or she is ready. I scare quit easily and I would not be able to handle a baby who is seeming choking, even if it is just gagging, even if teh baby's body would be protect itself against choking liek I have heard one blw mommy say. I am simply just not comfortable with tha. For me, personally, teh cons outweigh the pros.

A baby needs to learn to CHEW, that happens gradually ... again, just MY opinion. A tiny 5 month old's digestive system works differently than an older baby's so that is why puree is so much easier on their little tummies and digestive systems, again, MY personal opinion
:-) Hope I am not stepping on toes.

hI THERE

I also feed my baby cereal for breakfast , the for afternoon and supper i have cooked my own veggies and freeze it averymorning i just take out a new one, Find purity expensive and dull. It took me one hour to cook a months food for baby. and he loves is.... i also dont knnow about BLW.... nothing against it i just feel a baby should know how to eat with hands and spoon and i still want to be in control of how much he eats and how fast, but i havent tried BLW so cant really comment in detail.
