Jan/Feb 2011 Mommies (Nov & Dec 2010 early babes)

WOW what freaken hectic first night we never slept believe me if i say not a wink, i am sooooo tired, but i think they got to use to the nan milk cause my breastmilk only came in on thursday so i mixed the two and they don't seem to like it, they battled to drink last night, so i stopped the breast and they only on bottle and a wider teat and they basically finish all there milk and settle easier now, so lets see what the plot will be tonight

They have started with plaster theraphy so they are in casts now, but me as there parent i don't really notice

Vix, Glad you are doing well and is home with Alex. I hope little Jono grows and gets strong enough quickly so he can be home with his family. The expressing must be hectic.. thank goodness they only take in so little in the beginning!

Chris, close 'dem legs tight girl!!! Sorry you have been sleep-deprived the last few nights... really its only the preperation setting in to get your body into a routine. When I was preggie the first time I slept like a log every night and then it was such a shock when my son was born that I couldnt cope with all the waking up !!

Maryke, so glad you are home with the boys, it must be such a pleasure! How is Francis Jane with them? Did the Dr say anything about the club foot? I know my sisters friends child ws born like that and it had rectified itself, I honestly think that it was cos of them been squashed inside as I think they more than likely would of picked it up in the scans?

You ladies have made me so anxious to meet my little one's. Dh asked me what I am most nervous about and I said that they will be in NICU, he looked at me a bit oddly as if to say yes I know but what else, he was talking about the c/s, I told him obviously I hope all goes fine during the procedure and I will be able to be awake throughout, I have thought about it but I think my biggest concern is the babies.

Vix, do they give you antibiotics after c/s? The runny tummy could be from all the meds/pain killers.

Yvette, how was your games night with dh?

Maryke- I'm so pleased to hear you are home with both your boys! That's great news! Sorry to hear about the club foot, I can imagine how it feels to see your baby have to go through procedures now to rectify it, everytime the sister mentions which specialists are coming to see Jono next my heart sinks into my pants. I hope your boys don't have to go through too much so early in life. But you sound thrilled all the same! I just knew they were boys! And I can't believe our boys were born a day apart! They're going to make up a strong 4some one of these days and you and I will NEED mommy trips to the pub!

MommyN- I hope you are doing well after your op, I hope your little boy is doing well, can't wait for the name but I'm sure you said you were thinking of Jonathan also?

Binks- Jonathan means gift from god and our Jonathans certainly are little fighting miracles with a huge gift of life.

KarinM- thanks for the well wishes. I can definately see Alex misses his companionship, I can't wait til I can lay them back together again. Sadly they won't allow Alex into NICU, if he was also admitted then they would probably have kept them together but having been in the outside world already there are too many risk factors for bugs and diseases, remember there are many babies in that ward who are not nearly as strong as Jonathan and have almost zero immune system. If Alex has even picked up the slightest cold and passes it on then it can be a killer for a weak prem baby. Only moms and dads allowed in NICU and even then the hand washing rules are very strict. You have to wash hands before you can wash hands LOL no seriously after opening the door you have to use hand sanitizer before you're even allowed to touch the soap dispenser at the sink! It's pretty hectic but I must say it's impressive the set up they have and the dedication their sisters and nurses have. There is almost always someone beside Jonathan's bed when I visit and they give you a full run down of babys latest readings and stats everytime you enter even if you were just there 30min before.

Yvette- The cardiologist said that there is a valve in the heart that a foetus uses but that once he's breathing himself it needs to close so almost instantly after birth this valve shuts. In a few full term babies it dooesn't always shut immediately but in prems it's very common and usually it will shut itself with a little time, if in a week it hasn't closed then they simply give a shot of brufen and that usually does the trick. Very very few babies ever need surgery for such a case. So I know Jono is going to be kept in til atleast friday next week when the cardiologist will come back to see him. They say the jaundice is getting better but his last few feeds he's not been tolerating so the weight is not gaining. That can be because of many reasons but Jaundice could be the cause for his lack of digestion.

Oh yes and both my boys are O- blood group so no rhesus complications between us which is wonderful. Especially as Jonathan took in a lot of my blood at the birth but there were no antibodies built up so that was great news.

I was also wondering if the runny tummy was from the voltaren but I only had one at 8pm on thursday and the tummy cramps started before that and even still now 36hrs later. I am wondering if it's the actual pain meds so I have switched to the synap forte because they didn't bother me last time.

vix i also had terrible tummy runs after i had ashley - right from when i got home. i thought it was from the voltaren suppositories... are you taking them? gosh it was awful. was so dehydrated from that as well as ashley cleaning my boobies out right from the word go. no wonder i have such a big child! love her to bits.
i was also worried about the constipation... but in the end i din;t have to worry anymore!
hope you are feeling ok. about that horrible trapped wind, just try fart it out. that is another pain that the books don;t tell you about. did you get that terrible right shoulder pain too? its also from trapped wind. that was crap. joys joys of having a c-section.... none of this with my vaginal birth before.

how did it go with the cardiologist and jono?

hi maryke - hope you well. what have the dr's said about the babies feet? i'm sure its nothing ot worry about, maybe its because they were squished? well done on carrying to 35 weeks !

vix - how are you doing? glad alex is home. how long must jono stay? what a wonderful hubbie you have!

i went shopping today with more ebucks. last year for ashleys babyshower i got a box full of baby toiletries which i have never used. she has excema so i use epizone stuff. i decided to take it all back to baby city and they credited it all - R400 worth of things. i exchanged for the babysense breastfeeding shawl thing that has the weight in the one corner that drapes over your shoulder to hold the shawl in place. brilliant thing. wish i had one with ash. also got campcot sheet and 3 of those tiny bibs which is great.

anyway, my day fell short due to intense pressure down there and on my pubic bone, as well as alot of 'wetness'. gross. i was so moody tomorrow is my baby shower - finally and my nanny does not want to come with. grrr. ashley is HARD WORK - binks bet you cna vouch for that - 16 months...

i really have to get that baby room done. craig only put up the cot today and has left the one bed in the room dismantled. so lets see how long it stays there. annoying of note.

going to play some need for speed now with DH:)

congrats on your perfect beans!!!!! and don't even give a second thought about the club feet. that is SUCH a minor problem that is so easily fixed these days Really not a concern. We see a lot of it where I use to work and it's such a straight forward thing to call the paed, refer to orthopaedics and voila! in no time those little feet are sorted

funny how babies can be so picky about teets!!! but I guess that's what makes them so unique.
are they identical??

Vix - How is it being at home with Alex?? I would love to come visit once the 'visitors' rush is over before I immigrate. so somewhere in the first couple of weeks of January. don't worry about feeling out of place in NICU. totally understandable. you kind of wonder what exactly you can do since they are in incubators and have the tube feed pipe etc etc etc.
I am sure Jono is going to be home in no time as well.
interesting question Karin posted about them allowing Alex to lie with Jono.

MommyN - Hope you are feeling a little less emotional today! Have you decided on a name for your little boy yet?

Chris - keep those legs closed! TIGHTLY! just get DH to pamper you to death so those aches and pains are worth it.
