I agree with you guys. The birth really only is the beginning but if it isn't a good beginning it has such a huge impact on everything. I know things don't always go according to plan, but I can look back now and say I gave it my best. I tried for what I wanted which was natural. Dylan chose his birth date which is great.

If a c section is your desired birth then it will be a wonderful experience too so what ever you choose, give yourself the best opportunity to experience it and be prepared for change.

Lets face it from the time you have a child, your life is never quite orderly anyway.

Yes the birth is just one day, but that one day can change your life forever. You need to be fully prepared (both ways) for that one day.

@Memo - that was the BEST advice EVER given on the topic....the birth is just "one" day.... there is so much more to come!!

My beautiful baby boy, Connor Troy, was born on 20 March 2010 and my 2nd gorgeous boy, Cullen Reece, was born on 2 September 2011 - I am very blessed indeed

I decided on a c-sec due to previous medical reasons with myself, I was worried to put my body and baby through too much stress of natural birth, C-sec was the better choice for the safety of my little girl, it was over in 30min, baby was happy and healthy, I was up and walking the very next morning first thing, and i refused pain meds, I only took panados. Area was tender for about 2 weeks there after all was gone.

It really is all up to YOU, don't let other people's advice influence you, it's great to get different opinions, in the end baby has to be born either way, being it natural or c-sec, I honestly believe there is no wrong or right way of having your baby.

C-sec babies are in no way in any sort of disadvantage in any sort of way and ofcourse neither are babies born naturally.

Congrats Tanz on deciding on a birthing option ;) Really hope it works out for you :P And no matter how your precious bundle comes into the world, it will be rewarding either way ;)

I think every woman wants a natural birth. Its human. But sometimes its not always about what we want. Our babies can have a mind of their own. Some womens bodies can't handle the natural process. And as much as csecs are spoken down upon, they are a lifesaver at times.
I have always wanted a natural water birth since before I fell pregnant. For me it felt right. But then I struggled to fall pregnant. And I realized my body couldnt fall pregnant on its own, couldnt keep the baby in on its own. So now I just really feel that a csec will be safer in my situation.
I do also feel that sometimes setting your mind on one birthing option and not having an open mind that a csec could happen, also contributes to PND. I think its important to realize that you can have the perfect birth plan, but at the end of the day it really all depends on your baby.
I also think alot of women who choose csecs so that they can plan around it, its not about convenience all the time. I have spoken to quite a few mothers who work in the corporate world and the pressures they are under really leaves them no choice. Some companies really restrict women when it comes to time off or maternity leave. Back in the day women were less stressed, so natural birth was alot easier to prepare for. Like in my situation, I have a boss from hell who just doesnt understand pregnancy even though he has one son. Everytime I took a day off for my scans he would fuss. When I told him I was pregnant, he just asked when was my due date so that he could get another manager. Luckily I will be resigning before the birth. But if I had to carry on working, I would have to have csec and plan around it.
So I don't think its wrong when a woman plans her life around a csec so she can have some more time with her baby than wasting time waiting.
Natural birth and csec is a way of life coming into this world. Its beautiful both ways. Both ways you get to meet your precious bundle.
So far me, I might be opting for a csec but my baby could come earlier, I could have my waters breaking before a csec, I might not have time to have a csec. A natural birth could be a reality for me too. So I will leave it up to my baby to decide how he wants to come into this world.

Sorry for the long post, just thought I'd add that there are other mommies to be who are also wrestling with the birth choice ;)
