Hi Ladies

Tanz, thanx for ressurrecting this topic again. Unfortunately, being a first time mommy myself I do not have any previous experience to share.

However, my feeling is do your research and ultimately make the best decision for you. Justine is right you sometimes need to be very firm with these gynae's.

All the best in your decision making process.

Hi Tanz,
sorry, what i meant was that if your doctor has a 70-80% caeser rate, then thats the likelihood of you ending up with a caeser. In my opinion it is only ladies with a very strong inclination for a natural delivery that will end up with a natural delivery when under the care of a gynae. the vast majority of 'fence sitters' or those that havent made their mind up, will be persuaded into a caeser (in private practice that is).

You are definitely allowed pain medication when breastfeeding with a c-section. Hells bells, I would have died otherwise! I am sure it is not ideal for baby though ...

I have to say, I am shocked! I thought that it was my decision from the beginning and that at some point, the doctor would ask me what I preferred...

I have to agree with Justine - most (not all) gynaes will persuade you to have a c-sec unless you are very determined to have a natural.

If you are set on a natural, get a good midwife to support you

Thanks kwaatjie! Did you breastfeed? I also heard that you are not allowed to take anything for the pain (if you have a c-section) if you are breastfeeding, as everything is bad for the baby.

Frankie - Thanks for your opinion... :)

Justine - I am surprised to read that doctors decide for you! Is it really? I am in Pretoria. Havent discussed the options with my Dr yet, but thinking now I should do it rather fast! Thanks for the link. I will give it a read...
