Your Gynae Is really a God sent. What is his name and where is he based?

WRT Genesis my husband was also not keen on the idea. Going to the open day made it better, they were showing a vid of a recent delivery at the hospital. He says he loved the fact that the mom looked so calm in the video and that everything happened in one room, baby does not leave your side. If you have an emergency caeser they can do it onsite. Its all scary for first time dads as well.

I think your best bet is to organise a visit at the clinic and go with your husband so he can see what the facility looks like and met the midwives and also read up about other moms that delivered there.

If you are based in Pretoria, I hear Femina in Pretoria is also lovely. It is also very accommodative of pro natural birth mommies.

My gynea only charges the two sonagrams that the medical aid covers and the rest he does without charging me - he says that it is no use even going to the gynea if they can't use scans, so that is why he has decided to waive this charge for his patients. Which means each visit (excluding additional blood tests etc etc only costs me R360 per visist).

I really wanted to go the Genesis route, and I am still holding out hope that my husband might change his mind, but the idea of having to travel 40 minutes to Genesis when I go into labour, and the fact that there is no other specialists on site other than gyneas (and only in emergencies) freaks my husband out. It sounds like a absolutely fantastic experience for me to go through labour there, but it is just to much for hubby to handle - and as we are in this together I have agreed to look into other closer option (i.e. a hospital) to ease his anxiety.

We have a family history of very quick labours (+- 2 hours from start to finish) and this just adds to his concern, now I know that it is not a given that I will labour the same way (I will probably be in labour for like 24 hours considering my luck ), but there is a chance.... I will however explore all the options again closer to the time.

How did you calm the daddies nerves in terms of considering Genesis?

We also want to book with Genesis. Who is your midwife? I thought we would deliver at Linkwood but we absolutely loved Genesis.

Hey MrsMom, thanks for the pics - your baby is such a cutie.

Speaking of getting cheaper sonograms - we are going the genesis route and having a midwife lead delivery (or so we will be planning - if baby allows us to do everything according to plan ) hence, we only have our major appointments (12, 20 & 36) at our gynae, and the rest we have sonograms with Maryke at Genesis and then checkups with our midwife every 4 weeks. Also the sonograms at genesis are also relativity cheap - R550 per session.

I was booked off sick on Thursday and Friday, I was getting terrible migraines, Doctor says I have sinus something or other.

We went to the Doc for the 13 week assessments, waiting on the results. The bean was so active it was so exciting, was doing turns and back flips. We struggled to get a nice pic because baby had their back towards us. It was just too amazing.

A friend of mine told me about a place called PeerMed where you can go and get a sonogram done for R300 cash just so you can see baby between the Gynae visits, I think I will go I can't wait for another 4 weeks to see baby. Thought I would share if any of you are looking to see baby between visits.

The openday for Genesis Clinic was this Saturday, did any of you also attend, We loved the facility. Anyone also thinking of having a midwife led delivery?

Thanks CarienM, I think especially as a first time mom, one tend to over analyse and over think everything - and after this, I really don't think Google is your friend at all, because you just read of all the worst case scenarios which makes the whole situation much worse than it actually is. At least that is over now – so much to look forward to from now on 

Sorry Niki, can’t say that I have experienced any pain whatsoever in my legs at all, I am barely experiencing any symptoms regarding pregnancy at all at the moment (thank goodness). I am just sitting here wondering when the bump is going to start making its appearance…

Is anyone else suffering from severe leg pains? I When i saw my Dr he told me that its normal becasue the ligaments in my pelvic area are stretching and that could be causing the pain. I also googled and apparently the stretching ligaments or uterus could be applying pressure to the nerve that runs down my leg. I've been experiencing this for the past 3 weeks and its quite a challenge to move around.

I tried stretching and various other exercises but nothing seems to help. I'm seeing my gynae on Monday for my month 4 check up - YAY!!! - and hopefully he'll be able to advise me.
