Welcome Mommy4, Mrsmom and BabyT, Congrats to all round!

My first app, we had a scan, saw heart beat (didn't get to hear it though). We discussed the do's and don'ts. He said that only folic acid is necessary at this stage. I have been taking that and a multivitamin b supplement (both Solal products). He explained what we will do at each visit throughout the pregnancy and what screening tests will be done.

@BabyT - I feel ok, not great but not bad. Have had sore boobs since before I found out (got a BFP the night before AF was due). I am hungry almost constantly, wake up around 4 every morning because I am so hungry and have to eat something. It's a more intense hunger than I felt before preggo. I definitely have food/smell aversions which are mildly nauseating. I wake up too hot at noght which is new for me, i am normally an ice block.

Most of the symptoms started at around 5 and a half weeks.

CarienM, I am actually feeling great at the moment - except for constantly yawning and the sore boobs.

And then I have two new symptomes that is a bit strange to me... It feels like I am getting hot flushes, I don't have a tempreture and I don't feel sick, so its not a fever but every day at about lunch time I get really flushed in my face and feel warm and then also I am a little dizzy every now and then.

Seeing the doctor in on the 17th of July - and I have never been this excited to go to the gynae!

How are the rest of you ladies feeling?

Thanks, I got DH to at least agree to go to an open day, so we will see how that goes...

This is just such an absolutely exciting time - but we have decided to wait until we are sure that baby is okay before we start telling people and I must say keeping is quiet is not really working for me at all. All I want to do is walk around with a banner that says - Thats right people, we are having a baby.

Welcome and congratulations @BabyT Hoping for a happy healthy pregnancy for you as well!

@STK - I have a friend who wanted to have her baby there in April so she went to the open days and things like that, she did like them also, the only thing that put her off completely was that they said IF there are complications they will call the doc...which is a bit of a crap shoot if you ask me mostly b/c what if its a Monday morning at 7:30, that doc could take hours to get there and by that time it could be too late for your baby. I would have felt better if they had an OBGYN on site for emergencies, and then the NICU as well of course. I am not sure on what their policy is now (if it has changed) but would agree that going to their open day is your best bet to get all the answers you need.

Anyhoo, how are you feeling @BabyT? When is your apt with your doc?

Welcome @BabyT

I am sure you are excited. I wish I could help with the Gynae. I am on Discovery Medical Aid so I looked at the doctors that were charging Discovery rates and checked which of those doctors had great reviews from previous patients. Maybe you can do that.

There is a topic on the Forum about Genesis (Its called: Birthing at Genesis under the topic: Labour and Birth www.moomie.co.za/71-labour-and-birth/242...enesis-clinic#262606) or maybe you should go to their open days so you can see what they are all about. I think its in August I intend on going.

@CarienM Thank you for the details its well appreciated. I will follow up on Prof Nicolau, sounds like something worthwhile.

Hi Ladies,

I am another "Due in Feb 2016" mom :woohoo:

So much to find out still, seems like we planned the baba but nothing past that stage, hahahaha....

My normal Gynae is at Krugersdorp Private and that is where I will be going for my first proper check up and scan in July. But I really don't want to have my baby there.

I am looking for a decent gynae, that is pro vaginal birth (or at least try), Genesis is out of the question because the absence of a NICU is freaking my husband out - shame he is very over protective since we found out we are becoming parents.

Any input will really be appreciated.

We live in Ruimsig.

Congratulations @MrsMom, please let us know how your first appointment went :)

I've been doing some reading up on the Genesis Clinic - I think its a calm and ideal environment to birth in. They use mostly midwifes... If anyone has experience with the clinic or knows someone who has birthed there, and or has experience using a midwife please do share your view on yay or nay for the clinic or using midwifes :)
